My wife did a shop tonight online and checked it on MYSUPERMARKET which pricechecks the same items across Ocado/Tesco/Sainsbury/asda. The total price was as follows:

Ocado ?126

Tesco ?109

Asda ?108

Sainsbury ?100

I have always believed Ocado were significantly more expensive so it might be worth doing this check on your weekly shop and seeing if these results are borne out.

Its only some items that are tesco price checked - probably a merketing ploy as they know they are more expensive and want to divert criticism on price.

Having said that their product quality and customer service is second to none and some would think worth paying the extra for.

Thanks for that. I got all of them in the end. Actually not strictly true, some of them took it in the face.

I used the AK47 rather than the Uzi 9mm, I like to think I'm a sport.

Sorry about the barrell.

Just apropos of the price comparison - a 400g tin of organic (of course) plum toms is 75p in Sainsbury's and 62p from Ocado. And on top of that the ones from Sainsbury's are more watery. I spend less on the weekly shop now I use Ocado that when I shopped at Sainsbo.
Bless them, dear old sainsburys home delivery simply cancelled my order for tonight, too late to get another delivery slot. It's fishfingers and beans on stale Cream Crackers washed down with out-of-date Nesquick for us until we can get to to shops. Cool.

Joy of joys! The lovely Ocado men have just been to replenish my bare cupboards.

And they brought me a free paper (Times, natch) and a bottle of lovely wine to apologise for not coming last night.

The children can eat again - hurray!

They have a cheery crew of delivery people who are always well informed etc.

They always call my mobile to say when they are arriving

They never muck me around over delivery times

They hardly ever substitute

They stock stuff that I love and that other people don't have (e.g. Waitrose luxury lemon curd - the best!)

They never quibble about any - very rare - returns (twice in three years?)

They have always - since day one - been improving their service

And finally, I never have to *worry* about the delivery (and I have far too many other things too worry about). It's like wash n' go, but for food.

If I have to pay a few quid extra for that, I really don't mind. Paying five or ten quid less to get a whole bag of hassle and grief that will make me run around in circles for hours (I don't have the time!) is really not worth it. Sometimes a bargain is really not a bargain: it's another way of saying 'you do our work for us'.

    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
    • Another recommendation for Andy. I needed an old kitchen removed as an emergency. Andy came over quickly and did a fantastic job. I have used Andy a few times. He is punctual, helpful and always does an  excellent job.
