Does anyone know how to do this?

I've just transferred all itunes music files from one computer to another and I can play the music via the actual file so I know it's on the computer. But, when I open itunes, even though the titles are listed in the library it tells me the file cannot be found and I have to point it manually to the itunes music folder. Once it's played it from there it appears to move itself. I can't go through the whole library doing that, there must be an easier way.

I looked on a mac website and according to it in the itunes advanced settings there is a command called 'consolidate library' which might do it. Not in my itunes there isn't. I'm on a pc but that shouldn't matter should it?

Any help gratefully received.

OK, what you need to do here is point iTunes at your newly created library so it knows which is the default location. Not sure about the Mac, but on the PC its Edit/Preferences/Advanced tab where you should see something like 'iTunes folder location'. Click change and point it at your newly created folder, then it will look there first for your music.

Fairly certain that should sort it out.

I've just had the exact same problem and I did what bignumber5 said, that did the trick. Go to file>add folder to library and select the relevant top folder, all the subfolders will automatically follow so you don;t have to do track by track.

You might also have to authorise your new computer to play the tracks, certainly if you've purchased any from the iTunes store. It will prompt you to do this if it needs to.

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
