Wouldn't mind a pub in the area that showed the football with the volume on the tv turned up. Rather than showing football with a ELO soundtrack (EDT) or Van Morrison (Cherry Tree) which I find a bit odd.


Nothing wrong with Antic pubs as long as the bar staff aren't trained by whomever does the recruiting/training at the EDT. oh lordy.


Wetherspoons were interested in the Cherry Tree but the outgoing landlord wasn't interested in selling to them at any price I am given to understand.

Really? Do you know why not?


How nice for the outgoing landlord to be able to turn down an offer "at any price"!!

I was never told why, Sue. Just that at the time he was talking to others but had knocked Wetherspoons back as he had done "many times before"

I'm in The EDT most nights and they have football with the sound on most nights.


They have 3 screens and sometimes have more than one game on.

It is probably the best pub to drink and watch football.


Never heard ELO being played during the game or any other time for that matter..


Only complaint I have is the area manager has banned Millwall games.

Well they must have me microchipped to set the ELO mp3 player off. Over the past month or two our favourite brummie Sgt Pepper tribute band have been on nearly everytime I have been in there. I notice these things because I 'effin hate ELO.


Yes, I think they do have the tv volume up for some football games but certainly not all. I certainly frequent the place enough to know they don't always. Unless they have had a recent change of policy.


What have they got against Millwall?

Was put off the Castle due to it being sadly frequented by a formerly pony-tailed buffoon that I would gladly have punched. Not been in the Castle at all this season. Should give it another try I suppose.

I don't think that is true. Believed to be heading off to the Golden Lion in Sydenham.

The ponytail uses the EDT too.


The Castle is still the best place locally to watch the football. The George Canning is pretty good too but if The Cherry Tree lot get their hands on that my visits there will be even more infrequent than they already are.


Having said that I hate the idea of some crappy Aussie bar in East Dulwich. Better the devil you know. You still have the choice to take you custom elsewhere.

Rodger the dodger Brown. Don't you work at the Cherry Tree as an odd job man. You know full well that the George Canning was just a rumour to stop people knowing that they took the Golden Lion in Sydenham on Monday. And Millage

You are wrong. They were desperate to sell to Wetherspoons so they could upset the people of East Dulwich?!! But Wetherspoons turned them down for being too small.

But a 'chain' is still a chain, right? I was merely pointing out in reply to you that some decent poubs are chain pubs.

      We both own the freehold. They’re in the maisonette and I’m in the flat. They’re older, so with any luck, they’ll be selling soon. Unfortunately, due to recent events, all of this now has to be disclosed on the TA6 form. Honestly, I’d move out of sheer shame if I were them. Poisoning fruit trees planted for children is just cruel, and they haven’t even apologised. I genuinely wonder how they justify this to themselves. Envy is such a toxic and destructive emotion, and sadly, it often explains behaviour like this. I just wanted to say how grateful I am for the support from so many of you, especially at the East Dulwich Forum drinks and for the kind messages on both this forum and the Nextdoor app. It’s genuinely reassuring to know there are still decent, supportive neighbours around.

      Hmm, you seem to have an agenda.  I like ait of measured that they have done to promote active travel, improving pedestrian and cyclist safety, whilst improving the streetscape. I avoid making sweeping statements about wildlife management as I don't know enough about their policies, and expect some in Southwark are passionate about what they do. Go along to a relevant local meeting and ask, I doubt if you will change a thing by posting here.

      It wouldn't surprise me at all.   The council used to spray the pavements all the time b4 lockdown.  They are probably doing it again.
