And before that, The New Hamlet Inn. Only went there a handful of times before it became The Vale. For a period around 2003/04 it was a regular Friday/Saturday night venue for a bunch of us (start at The CPT then head down there before grabbing a wrap roll from Yilmaz then often heading back to The CPT (upstairs).

But despite putting ?100+ behind their bar EVERY time I went in there (God, to have that money to spend now...), never doing any drugs in there (honstly), and never getting in any scraps, the owner still looked at me like I was something unpleasant he'd trodden in. Eventually you just think maybe your money would be better spent elsewhere.

Plus the music changed from fun stuff to dance to (Hey Ya) to stuff I wasn't remotely in to, and the crowds dwindled, and other places got later licenses so it wasn't the only local option after 11pm.

No it's not, at all. a branded chain with all the same named pubs, menus, etc and aimed at delivering the same experience to people who want the security of a brand they know is very different to a pubco that owns a bunch of different pubs with different names (although some pub cos standardise some of the offering).

Legend has it that the robbers celebrated their success with a drink in East Dulwich at The Cherry Tree pub.

I believe this to be just an urban myth.

Let's hope it changes from The Not Very Cheery Tree to The Cheery Tree :))

Do the Adventure Bar people also own this Australian (?) chain then, or is that a franchise?

So does anybody have some actual link to a written source which will tell us without a doubt who has bought The Cherry Tree?

I'm beginning to think the Not Very Cheery owners are going to stay there after all! :)) and :(

    • We live in East Dulwich and often to go Rye Lane. I know people say there are good restaurants near Rye Lane.  Does anyone have recommendations for good places for lunch or dinner?  We like Manze for pie & mash at lunch. And I've been to Peckham Bazaar in the past, which was excellent.  Thanks!
    • My husband is currently a full-time carer for our two disabled children, and he’s keen to get back into paid work where he can fit it around our family needs. He’s immediately available and looking for local handyman work — from snagging and DIY jobs to gardening or general fixing-up. He’s capable, practical, and reliable, with plenty of hands-on experience restoring and maintaining, including with heritage/listed properties. If you have a to-do list you never quite get to, or need help with those annoying finishing touches, he’d be happy to help. Please drop him a message if you’d like to chat or check availability. 07968345884
    • Unfortunately Nissan was a disaster of a company when it created your car and still is, and most recently created another combined disaster alliance with Renault. Be aware, the trade value on your car is really low as no one wants to do the work & it's often only when it reaches near scrap value that someone (else) is willing to invest (their money) to try and fix. So if you're willing to front the money and fix your car that (you know) then that is most likely your best option (also understanding that it is outrageous that you should have to replace a CVT gearbox after 50K). If that isn't appealing consider a new Skoda Fabia 1.0 (Auto) on finance if you can't afford cash, it will last 20yrs.... (and avoid cars from the Stellantis group)
