I often don't like Chinese food (too sweet, too oily, but I think that's because it's often done badly). I did, however, have an incredible meal at Bar Shu recently (a friend who spent a long time in China said it was her favourite, I can see why). The fish fragrant aubergines, potato slivers with chilli's and gong bao prawns were all revelatory. If they or anyone else as good did deliveries I'd be in big trouble.

Not tried Silk Road, but keep hearing good things.

Question - do Silk Road do take away or delivery? A lot of people have been saying it's hard to get a table after their recent award from the observer (best cheap eat 2014), and I was unsure if a cheeky delivery might be an alternative!!

They do take away, collection only, but (as far as I've heard them say to people who ask for a take away menu) you need to know the menu as they don't run as a take away.

The food is, to a dish, spectacular. None of this msg, sugar filled Anglo Chinese food and all beautifully spiced xingian blow your head off cuisine.

Cumin spiced lamb with hand pulled noodles and middle plate chicken are amazing. The cucumber, three sprout salad and aubergine all travel very well.

Enjoy!

    • and when it's such a small increase, it doesn't really matter, does it.
    • I’m not trying to say anything.  I’m explicitly citing the example of the party with most to gain by saying “councils waste money.  We will go in and bust that whole nonsense up!” Only to go in and go whoops. We need more money not less ive deliberately posted a link to a sympathetic (to them) news outlet specifically so no one can go “well the guardian would say that”   why try and hypothesise?
    • Marveling at the chutzpah of Brexit supporters wanging on about a 4.99% increase in council tax which equates to circa £94/year for the average Band D, whereas it's conservatively estimated* that Brexit has cost each UK household circa £1k/year.  At least with council tax there are actual tangible benefits e.g. weekly waste clearance.  *Based on BoE report 2023...
    • so to summarise, "Party X is stating that Council Y is financially inefficient and saving can be realised or efficiencies made, but when the exercise has been completed, it was found that no savings were achievable". I don't know if you are trying to say that has happened or that if it does happen, that is what would happen.
