Shutters - do they make kid's bedroom dark enough?

...just that really! Am thinking of getting some for both kids' bedrooms (2 and 5 years old) but don't want them to get up early because light is coming in during the summer months. Are they as effective as blinds/curtains with a blackout lining?

Shutters let light in through the gaps- if you mean plantation style ones. We have to use black out curtains with ours

Same. Have to use blackout blinds under our shutters.
