Blah Blah
Point taken minder. I just think it's better not to add fuel to the fire, and rise to it when that happens. It's clearly opened a few raw wounds. Dulwich Born And Bred
What what what?Re the clique , I joined back in the day and everyone was really lovely then some of us had kids and became grumpy impatient sods which reflected in our short tempered posts.I know quite a few people on here personally know each other but I have more of an issue with the posters who are so rude in their replies and like to belittle others , there is just no need for it but generally I just kick my door in frustration and let it go when I come across the likes . It's just a forum at the end of the day with your usual mixture of people . StraferJack Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> whihc thread gone? Alan Medic
If there is such a thing as a clique on the forum I am sure it is because certain posters know each other personally and sometimes use their own 'in jokes' which no one else can understand. That comes across as childish more than anything else given it's a public forum. Here are the lads on a night out. Which begs the question Meds, how do you know an 'in joke' has been made?... Alan Medic
Cause I don't get them. What else could they be? I'm excluded from them so it's got to be the work of the clique. Are you a member RD? red devil
My point is, how do you know it's a joke in the first place? Atticus
A delicious irony was observed earlier on this thread. Surely non more saliva inducing though, than that of the sight of the said clique regrouping, shooting from the hip once again, in utter denial. kristen
I?ve been using the forum for a few years and think it's a fantastic resource and I?m really grateful for it ? it?s also satisfies my need for local gossip and helps me feel connected to East Dulwich as a community (although I know it?s not the whole picture). But during this time think it?s got more and more ?cliquey? I think it?s harder for newcomers to join in debates/discussions and that a lot of people ? except the ?old-time? (sorry!) regulars - just use it for local information purposes ? buy/sell, find out about businesses etc. As groups/online communities develops the shared connects deepen and this can create something that becomes difficult for newcomers to participate in. Again ? this isn't a bad thing ? online communities are all to a certain extent cliques. But I think that there is a loss ? particularly if something is a place of local connection - if it?s hard for people to join in. There is also the potential that things will start to wither and become just a series of self-replicating thoughts/debate/discussions. Blah Blah
'There is also the potential that things will start to wither and become just a series of self-replicating thoughts/debate/discussions.' That is an extremely goood point, and something I've seen on other forums. Debate does get locked down to the same predictable range of of views and responses. Debate is about expressing a view, listening to the antithesis, and being prepared to change your view if the antithesis has merit. What often happens I think is that debate in forums is not debate at all, but a sounding box for people with strong and unmovable opinions. numbers
never understood people complaining about cliques, they are still posting though so it can't be that bad... When I first joined the forum, I read a little bit at first and liked the banter so that drew me in. That was when Honaloochie and Ted were prolific posters so lots of hilarity and intelligent conversation. There were some natural forum 'double acts' that made me laugh out loud. It was obvious that people had met IRL through forum drinks/hobbies or knew each other from before it was set up but to me that was what made it quite intriguing. When I plucked up courage to meet people in the area, I found that esp at the forum drinks people tended to talk about other stuff rather than the forum all night (thankfully). Would never have put the same faces to posting names in some cases!I think there will always be people in life who find it easier to join in/mingle/take part/whatever you want to call it and the same goes for their online activity as that in the 'real' world, sometimes the opposite. If that makes sense. I was a bit apprehensive at dipping my toe in the water for the first time. Esp as I got pounced on by one of the moderators for my comment (heheh). Some people are more prone to flouncing than others. You 'get' that one I'm sure. It's a game and anyone who thinks it's a joke should try playing it. Hours sometimes of sitting there, waiting for someone to post number 399 and then strike like a cobra. Meanwhile on another thread while I'm distracted some idiot posts an inane comment number 800 and doesn't even realise it. This is what the highs and lows of hundreds is all about.
