S'just that Mikecg told me I'd failed, and my poor little ego couldn't take it, I don't accept spelling failure (I was in the Pacific spelling group in primary school, so named because we didn't want the guys in the 5th group to feel stoopid by calling them Last or 5th or Bottom so we called them Indian instead, which maybe is a whole other can of worms... Anyway I'm reluctant to let go the accolade). For myself, I tend to agree with Sean's summary, but maybe more harsh in my suggested punishment:Typos? Fine. Can't spell? Fine (but, you know, get a dictionary) Can spell, won't spell? Jeremy
TLS has possibly taken some comments rather too seriously, and allowed himself to get dragged into something of a flamewar. But it's not all his fault, too many people have waded in to have a pop at him. Let's not get too personal with our bickering... Mikecg
So in conclusion then, I will be more meticulous about my spelling, that way the aficionados of grammatical excellence can post safe in the knowledge that, the mumbo jumbo I post will almost be as articulat as the mumbo jumbo they post. However only if I can be bothered. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5359-spelling-nazis/page/4/#findComment-172011 Share on other sites

Brendan
I would counsel against taking offence to having your spelling corrected. I?m dyslexic and went to school before dyslexia was fashionable. I just got called stupid and sent to the back of the class, diddums. So I realised I would have to teach myself to read and write and beat them at their spelling game. And just to spit in the eye of my teachers and fellow students I made the decision to become better informed than them too.* This didn?t prove very popular and I got called stupid and sent to the back of the class again but at least I had a smug sense of self satisfaction about it. Point being if nobody had pointed out that I was getting it wrong I would have carried on getting it wrong. So don?t get whiny get better or perhaps sarcastic or maybe lunch as it is almost noon. P.s. This post is not directed at anyone in particular and I don?t want to get into any fights. It?s Friday and I?m Switzerland. *I also made a point of doing things like writing properly constructed sentences that begin with ?and?. Just to piss them off. Mikecg
That's a nice story Brendan, I wish I was in Switzerland:)-D. I was always a mediocre student at school mainly because I was thinking about music or what I'd be doing in the evening, I like the idea of always starting a sentence with and just to piss them off. HA!.That's the thing, you never know where people come from or what's really going on in their lives.
