Venues for 60th birthday party - suggestions?

Hi - having grown up in East Dulwich, I no longer live in the area and find myself organising a birthday party for a relative in the area but all the pubs/halls etc seem to have changed dramatically! Are there any places anyone on here would recommend around East Dulwich for a party for around 50 people? Nice room above a pub would be ideal open to other ideas. Is a pretty young 60 so not an issue if the pub downstairs was full of trendy young professionAl types who are new to London (not sure if any other type of place exists in ED now?!)

Thanks very much in anticipation

Albrighton centre (opposite Dog kennel hill sainsburys ) have an upstairs room or main hall down stairs they both come with kitchen to prep food.

Or try the function room / bar area at Hamlets health club next door to dog kennel hill sainsburys.

Hope this helps.

Everyone I know, including myself, who has ever tried to hold an event there has had problems of one kind or another.

I'd recommend the lovely ballroom in The Ivy House (community owned pub in Nunhead, and in fact London's first community owned pub) - though I'm biased as I have community shares in it (!!) - or for a smaller room the upstairs panelled room at The Old Nun's Head.

They are both within easy reach of East Dulwich, and the management and staff at both are friendly and helpful.

    • What is it that makes Waitrose so special! Admittedly I have shopped a couple of times in the Orpington and Beckenham one - sometimes buying food which I cannot get else where. Their 'basic range' is not bad. Price for price and quality - M & S.
    • Sometimes a shed or other installation has to have written approval from the freeholder i.e. Southwark, Southwark has (or did have) a Leaseholder Association.   Could also come under Anti Social Behaviour Unit.
    • Love Dulwich is great but has a large step in front. We have only been weekdays at Lunch time. Maria's next to Picture House is disabled friendly. Also can reserve table in advance. We did a Sunday lunch catch up with family - there were 8 of us.
    • Hi, Thinking about  going with some friends and was just wondering if folk might like to report back please. Most importantly sound level when busy & is it disabled friendly.  Thinking on a Sunday lunchtime but don’t want a busy busy environment or loud chatter - a couple of friends could not cope. Time can be flexible, if that helps - say 2 ish to avoid above.. Thanks…
