A mate got arrested some time ago. It didn't go to court and was his word against the other party. He tried to get hold of the CCTV coverage but there were various 'reasons' why he couldn't have it. He's been down various legal avenues, written to his MP etc. It is not a big enough case for anyone to take it on pro bono.

I've not been able to find any organisations that can help. Any suggestions out there?

You have 40 days to request CCTV but if it is connected to a possible criminal case it will not be shared.

To be honest he needs to let it go, but no harm in asking the virtual community. I am sure most of us have been wrongfully arrested one time or another.

Not sure if that's entirely correct, but this might be of help to him:

A friend was involved in a serious life changing traffic collision and the only 'witness' around was a bus- but apparently the cameras on that were not working or not on.....just as well there were no cyclists around. I am naturally a suspicious person and malumbu's story just reinforces my suspicions....

CCTV operators will usually only keep fototage for up to a 30 days, space is needed so it's usually deleted after that. A data protection request during that time frame is the best way to get it.

You can also make the same request to the Police, who if they have the footage should have to share it with you.

    • Well, nobody else has yet said that it ISN'T the alarm outside the dentist! Nobody else has said "oh yes, I heard that beeping when I passed the dentist, but that wasn't the beeping I hear". And nobody else has said "Well I passed the dentist when the beeping I hear was going on, and it deffo wasn't coming from the alarm outside the dentist." I rest my case!
    • We weren't eating there, just having a pint after a walk in the woods. Can't remember the price of a pint or what we've had, but I've never liked Young's beer. Apart from the Winter Warmer (unless I've misremembered and that isn't Young's).
    • Now isn’t that land going to be built on for student housing or have I got it wrong?  Maybe it’s prep? PS plenty of benches in Dulwich Village and Melbourne Grove if you’re searching for somewhere to sit.
    • Saw that too and was disappointed b/c it WAS a serene, green oasis - that footpath between Greendale and Dulwich Hamlet football stadium. I suspect it might be for safety of walkers after dark so it prevents people hiding there? I don't know.  It was vandals b/c someone cleaned it up 😂 It's depressing that so much urban landscaping (i.e. getting rid of anything green) revolves around averting crime rather than with officers on foot to prevent crime and proper follow up. Benches taken out to stop loitering etc.  Teens and early 20s kids who still live at home need somewhere cheap to get out to and socialise and just chill and drink tinnies and smoke - esp on warm evenings when it's beautiful outside. In addition - it's depressing that no one cleans up the parking lot where the car wash is - just a disaster area now, I see my kids scanning around when we walk through wondering what the heck is going on there.  Does anyone know who owns that land?
