It wouldn't affect anyone on here I am sure, but I do think it's a sad sign of the times that the last two cash offices in Southwark are closed. Many people at the bottom of the ladder can't get bank accounts, or choose not to, and could pay their rents and so on in folding green. Also, some people choose only ever to use cash. I do, certainly. I wonder if they shouldn't offer us the chance to use Paypal!

Can they not do it through the post office? I thought there used to be little rent payment cards that you could use there & pay cash.

If that option isn't available, it should be.

I actually prefer the convenience of doing everything on-line but I know it's not easy for everyone.

Yes, I know Paypal means you have to have a bank account. That wasn't my point. Some people can not have bank accounts for various reasons. Cash should always be an option. even if it means they take you to court and you hand over buckets of cash there and then saying it was the first opportunity you have had since they would not accept cash!
I have to use cash offices in my work. We frequently have to get additional fob keys for Southwark Housing Properties for our clients - have to pay at the Walworth Road cash Office, get receipt before taking to HO to get fob. On the Kingswood Estate, you either have to go to the Walworth Road office first or purchase a Postal Order at the Kingswood PO which costs another couple of pounds.

    • I totally agree it just seems that it a thing nowadays.  It must be due to how fireworks are sold.
    • Well worth a read   https://manchestermill.co.uk/the-men-who-raised-the-flags/
    • If it was limited to a couple of days a year, so we all knew, that would be fine. In the last few years (and it is a recent thing) you get random fireworks going off any time after dusk for half the year. It does more than cause problems for pets and wildlife- it can mean lasting damage and massive expense and hassle for pet owners. All because some get a buzz out of loud bangs.
    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
