Jeremy
Shite misogynistic lyrics.Crappy, boring, bland song. Why anyone would listen to this dross - let alone pay money for it - is totally beyond me. Otta
Have seen lots of comments that they are "rapey".I'm not sure I'd agree looking at the lyrics. But when viewed with the video you can see why people have a problem with the overall package. Otta
It's totally sexist / misogynistic, but not sure about "rapey".Although"Talk about getting blastedI hate these blurred linesI know you want it"Could suggest date rape I guess. And I couldn't bring myself to read past the first chorus. *Bob*
What is does go to show - again - is how most listeners don't listen to lyrics.. or even if they do, they don't really care about them much. *Bob*
Most other songs don't make $15m though. Were it not for this, no-one would give a tinker's cuss, not even the Gaye estate. Louisa
I think Robin Thicke has bigger things to worry about now that Marvin Gaye's family have successfully sued him for copycat tactics over this song.http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-31825059Louisa. Otta
You're probably right about that *bob*.I just read the whole thing, and it does get rather more blatant by verse 3. But again, it's not the worst stuff I've ever seen in a song. Blah Blah
It's a song designed to shock, because controversy guarantees instant fame and record sales these days (remember that Robert Palmer hit anyone?). The chart is full of dross sold by naked women (and that's just from the female artists themselves) and gimmicks designed to shock. Strangely it's something that artists like Adele don't have to do, oh but hang on, she can actually sing and write decent tunes can't she.On a deeper level though, sex sells has moved from just car sales to pretty much everything now. Page three calendars seem almost tame. We talk all the time about how the media and arts have negative impacts on the self image of young people, but instead of doing something about it, it get's worse. *Bob*
Unfortunately - I don't think it is designed to shock. I doubt if the dubious nature of the lyric ever factored in Robin's mind. That's the worst bit. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/55360-blurred-lines-lyrics/#findComment-830665 Share on other sites
Blah Blah
You might be right bob. I think human nature has always harboured this attitude towards sex, women etc but what I find uneasy is the open display of it now through mainstream media. And we barely bat an eyelid. We seem to be more outraged by cultures that deny women education and the freedom to drive for example than we do by a culture that makes mobile phone porn accessible to children.
