not sure where to post this.

I had a call from my bank yesterday to say that the Met police had been in touch with them and found my bank card details inside an ATM (ie a device had been attached to the machine). My card has now been cancelled.

I haven't had any money taken from my account so it is just a hassle really.

ANYWAY, the real reason this has got me puzzled is the only ATM I remember using in London in the last 3 months is one INSIDE a bank on Rye Lane... (the one opposite McDonald's...)

anyone else?

These things can be attached to any bank machine, so I guess if it was a busy branch with multiple terminals, it would certainly be theoretically possible. Normally they have someone outside "supervising" operations and removing the device if it gets noticed.

Are you sure that the call came from your Bank The call may not of been from your bank.

Have you actually Lost your card ??? Is it Missing..

Did the caller ask for any details and did you give them any..???

If so you need to contact your bank or visit as soon as possible

thanks for replies.

It was definitely my bank (I called the service centre rather than giving out details to the person who called me).

I was just shocked that this skimming had taken place on a machine inside a branch - hadn't occured to me that someone would be so cheeky/ take such a risk with all the CCTV. Now I know better!

My mum had a similar call and the person on the other end told her to call the bank on the number on the back of her card straight away. What happens is that they don't hang up (this is on a landline) and so mum dialled and they pretended to pick up and be the bank, and then asked for security details. Eagled eared mum realised it was the same person and hung up.

    • I would leave London, or at a push move back to north London. In SE London if you want to get away in a car you are trapped, always an hour to go the first 10 miles, chugging up to the M4 or round the south circular, which is really just a line someone drew connecting a load of roads. and I know there are trains but first you have to get to those mainline stations, unless you only want to leave London to go to Kent. which I don't.
    • It was you who  made it personal in the first place,  Jazzer. You said you didn't feel safe in the streets,  and you said you didn't go to Central London because you didn't feel safe there. So are you now saying that wasn't "personal"? "Fire from the hip." Another interesting choice of words 🙄 I'm not "demanding" anything! I asked you some perfectly reasonable questions in  response to your own statements. None of which you have answered. Never mind. It seems to be pointless having a discussion with you. It's long past my bedtime. I'm going to turn on my sleep app  and go to sleep 😴💤
    • Hi Forumites, This afternoon someone in a dark blue/black saloon car collided with my parked car on Thompson Road, SE22 9JR. I have a neighbour’s doorbell cam footage of the collision at 14:30 19/09/2025 but am unable to identify the registration plate. If anyone has footage of a car travelling down Thompson Road towards Crystal Palace Road at that time please PM me. Of course if the Perp would like to confess they can also PM me. Thankyou.
