I'm just sitting doing some work, taking a sip on my carton of very sweet ribena...that has 34% of the RDA for adults, that is also produced by GlaxoSmithKline group of companies, who also produce antidepressants... my research involvements show that diabetes and high sugar intake can be linked to depression (ie lifestyle choices to eat high sugary food, perhaps in an attempt to feel better)....see where I'm going with this.

Obvious point I guess, but to see the full cycle of a medicated society right before my eyes (and catching myself taking part in it!) is, er, depressing.... now where are those pills?

Is this the meaning of modern life, to act as money siphons for big conglomerates -- buy their stuff, get ill, buy their stuff to enforce wellness....mmmmmm

Without wanting to reguirgitate Paris '68 situationists - but how DO you mend a sick society ?

In herd immunity terms - treat the infected as best as possible - expect a partial recovery only. Let the infection fade away as the generations mature. Give the new, uninfected, generations a suitable vaccination, aim for minimum take up of 90% but aim for 100%.

In terms of today's "sick society" (a lousy and cliched term BTW) the treatment and vaccinations are hard to develop and harder still to implement. Suggest that the discarded mantra of "Education, Education, Education" is the best place to start but really mean it and fund it this time - and don't constrain it with meaningless ideology or bureaucracy.

A damn good question and it reminds me of the question that bugs me

Diabetes - Are we ingesting something that has increased the rate of Juvenile Diabetes they leading to drugs companies making tonnes of money from producing Insulin, Needles, pens (Syringes) , blood monitoring equipment (I feel a conspiracy theory coming on), high blood pressure tablets, and so on

OR is there in fact a cure for Diabetes that some drugs company knows about but isn't telling because a cure will make less profit then the continuing treatment of the condition ?

I guess the same goes for Heart Conditions, Cancer and other medical conditions that we should have answers to but don't.

My son was taught about aspartame (artificial sweetner) in his science class, I think it is a good idea for children to be educated about things concerning there health especially when they have been passed by authorities, I think it teaches them that at the heart of the healing is money.

Hallelujah, and relearn the fact the education isn?t all about the subject matter but about teaching the child to be a strong, questioning and robust individual. If they have that they can easily figure the rest out.

Buddhist Mantra (And I reckon the Buddhist's are pretty healthy)

Body like a mountain, heart like the ocean, mind like the sky

So...learn to be robust, to let emotions ebb and flow without constraint (don't have to act on them), keep mind clear and free from bias.... easy peasy huh??

As far as I'm aware there isn't a secret cure for diabetes. If there was, a pharmaceutical company would patent the 'cure' which would probably produce unimaginable wealth for said company. Unfortunately our children are consuming unprecedented amounts of sugar in their diet now which has led to a worryingly high level of Type 2 diabetes which used to only affect people in middle or old age, ( with the exception of pregnancy induced diabetes ) at a much earler age. Juvenile onset diabetes has always existed and I would add that those affected have not ' brought it on themselves ' with poor diet, it has been a form of diabetes that has always existed and almost certainly always will. A cure for this would be one of the greatest medical break-throughs ever seen. I wish it could be so.

    • I've noticed the foxes are very frisky at the moment, it's mating season. Perhaps it was a male fox who saw you as a danger to his vixen and wanted to see you off.
    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
    • Another recommendation for Andy. I needed an old kitchen removed as an emergency. Andy came over quickly and did a fantastic job. I have used Andy a few times. He is punctual, helpful and always does an  excellent job.
