I just watched the BBC News headlines and they said "Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke". Maybe you should take them to task on that.

Golf in Northern Ireland has boundaries. I played Ulster Boys and Ulster Youths. Those competitions begin and end in Ulster. All interprovincial competitions are exactly that, played firstly within their provinces. Likewise we have the North of Ireland Amatuer Championship.

In Northern Ireland we have few great sporting heroes who are known internationally; George Best, Alex Higgins, Barry McGuigan being a few. Its great to be able to add golfers Graeme, Rory and Darren to the list.

Who would have thought NI would have had 3 golf majors in 13 months having only had one (Fred Daly) in the previous 100 years. Brilliant for such a little place.

I thought Ulster was made up of 9 counties! McGuigan was from Ulster but not Northern Ireland.

Dublin, a much smaller place, had 3 majors in 12 months and 3 weeks!

I know you Alan M/LM we had met a few times.This was only a jock but some people think is very easy to wash

With 3 recent major winners, there is now a big push for the Open to be played in Northern Ireland again. The R and A have said they would look at it. Lets hope it can be achieved somehow.

I enjoyed the docu on Rory late Sunday night, did anyone else see it?

It was good to see how his family keep him grounded and that he still maintains strong links with the Province, such as going back to his old school with the US Open trophy.

The news yesterday that he has recently split up with with girlfriend might explain his demeanour and strange comments after the Open about the weather...he should be used to the rain and wind.

Yes - it was excellent.

I spotted a Range Rover and an Audi Q7, for a guy who has no kids yet. Not to mention the Bentley.

Seems a very settled guy and its a shame he has split from his girlfriend - but he must be tempted to take advantage of some of the offers he gets and may be better in the long term if he enjoys himself for a few years before settling down.

With that hair, he must get a lot of offers.

Irish Open to be held at Royal Portrush in 2012. To be announced this afternoon apparently. First time the Irish Open has been played in the north since 1947.

It could be a good dry run for The Open to return there ( to NI). I understand the problem currently is they don't have the infrastructure to cater for the number of spectators who would want to attend.

Rory appears to have nailed his colours to the mast.

It's his choice. He is I think from a family of mixed religion, so no clear indication there and so he really is going to find it difficult to choose. I don't think his choice will actuallly upset anyone.

If he chooses GB he might get to play with Gmac, but more realistically 3 English players. If that is likely to happen he may be swayed towards Ireland, if Gmac does not get picked for GB.
