My grandfather was still clearing-up in Burma, nowt to celebrate.

He had 3 months or so of watching his regiment dying of disease, traps, battle and fatigue whilst fighting and surviving by the akin of his teeth until August. He was never one for celebrating VE day.

I can't say I blame him KK! The concept of VE day is a little odd in a sense, when you consider the 14th (Burma) Army was the largest we had.

I suppose it was nice for those back in Blighty. Unless their spouse was in the 14th.

My Dad was in Germany on VE day.

They offered him a commission if he'd go to Burma.

He had no hesitation in saying no thanks.

    • Don't think there'll be much glee around today with what's happened in Poland and France 😕
    • Sounds a horrible, random attack, quite possibly for social media clicks, or some kind of sick initiation into goodness knows what - it is reported they were filming the incident. I do not really doubt that any of this is true. Perhaps the friend who reported it elsewhere does not want to be identifiable? There has been an emerging issue with different types of anti-social teenage/ young adult behaviour on the Rye this summer and this latest incident indicates a tipping point into something much nastier. The park should be a safe and enjoyable space for all.
    • It is back to its proper route. The bus was diverted due to an incident on Pytchley Road yesterday afternoon.
