I do get annoyed when using a crossing, I know that I do take a little longer than a fit person, I can never get from one side to the other in one go, I have to make it the centre island first, I only take one step at a time them move my Zimmer forward then another step, it should be realised that the small shelf under the top of it holds my shopping, this is the same as moving your shopping bag forward a foot at a time all the way home.

To have a driver keep hooting does not help, I had always thought that a Traffic Warden would assist by aiding a person across, not trying to get me to move faster as I am holding traffic up, I know he has the authority to direct any vehicle or person using the roads, but there is as far as I know, no set time limit that it takes to cross a Zebra as long as you are moving.

I did have a small device that blasted out the tune of Colonel Bogie, to inpatient drivers but the Warden told me that I had to have a Broadcasting Licence for it. I informed him that it was warning of approach of my vehicle, ( A Vehicle is something that is operated by a person in charge ) it was completely legal that as it had not reached eleven a.m. I stopped carrying that as it was just extra weight to carry. Did you ever think why an old person did not perhaps wear a heavy coat in cold weather, it?s the weight.

I told him that he had better take my Registration number and give me a ticket, for obstruction, he said there is no Number plate.

Give me your name and address, I informed him that he had no power as a Traffic Warden to demand that I gave these.

I carried on my way unfortunately, a leg of my Zimmer got misplaced on his shoe toecap, leaving him momentarily pinned to the spot. As I moved away I could hear him asking pedestrians ?Do you know who that is?? the reply from several was ? Get Knotted? or words to that effect. I know I can rely on you members here not to disclose who I am.

SHUT UP...shut up,shut up,shut up,shut up,shut up,shut up,shut up,

Just bloody well "shut up"

Oh Grrr ...really, I mean.....well, you know.

W**F

When you phone so called "customer services" and you're on hold for ages and the dire hold music gets periodically interrupted by a voice imploring you to visit their website instead. I mean, where do they think you got the fucking number from that you just dialled to listen to this tosh in the first place?

Absolutely Brendan. A lot can be said about call centres. Non of it good.

And another thing - when you've been put through to a call centre, obviously in another time-zone, and someone with a thick accent introduces themselves as "Geoff" or "Brian".

Calling a call centre is nobody's idea of a fun time so it doesn't bode well, in my opinion, if you don't even have the correct name of the person you're dealing with. If I ring a call centre I'm fastidious about writing down the name of the person I spoke with and what the outcome of the call was - just in case things go wrong and I need to call back again. The first thing I say on any customer services call is "hello, who am I speaking with". It's just good business practice.

Yeah but they say 'Mike' or 'Dave' and are not prepared to give any further identification, so remain anonymous.

Now THAT irritates me because I have called back to speak to Mike/Dave to be told (of course) that there are loads Mikes and Daves.

You know why customer service operatives adopt false names. It's got nothing to do with avoiding traceability.

Your annoyance is a result of being made an unwilling part of a charade that you feel demeans both parties, I would suggest.

    • Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.
    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
    • I'd quit this thread, let those who just want to slag Labour off have their own thread.  Your views on the economy are worth debating.  I'm just stunned how there wasn't this level of noise with the last government.  I could try to get some dirt on Badenoch but she is pointless  Whilst I am not a fan of the Daily Mirror at least there is some respite from Labour bashing. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/grenfell-hillsborough-families-make-powerful-36175862 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/nigel-farage-facing-parliamentary-investigation-36188612
    • That is a bit cake and eat it tho, isn’t it?    At what point do we stop respecting other people’s opinions and beliefs  because history shows us we sometimes simply have no other choice  you are holding some comfort blanket that allows you to believe we are all equal and all valid and we can simply voice different options - without that ever  impacting on the real world  Were the racists we fought in previous generations different? Were their beliefs patronised by the elites of the time? Or do we learn lessons and avoid mistakes of the past?   racists/bigots having “just as much to say” is both true and yet, a thing we have learnt from the past. The lesson was not “ooh let’s hear them out. They sound interesting and valid and as worthy of an audience as people who hold the opposite opinion”
