The press reporting that the 'young' have given up drinking as if there's been a cultural change when infact it's the fact that the ethnicity of our youth population has changed so that there are more kids from a tradition where drinking is either not a significant part of their culture or not part of it at all for religious reasons...

How weird.

I tried googling and couldn't find anything about it, but if it's happening to other people as well surely it must have been the Windows update?

It seems to be just when I'm typing stuff in, like I'm doing now, not when it's actually posted and displayed.

I don't think they got the data from observing people in pubs, I think they asked people how much they drank, because another issue was people probably reporting they drank less than they did.

But not getting ethnicity and religion data was bloody stupid - they said they didn't think it was relevant, duh.

Have you tried a different browser, to see if it Windows rather than Firefox/Chrome/IE?

Ah, good idea, will try - usually use Firefox so will try IE, don't have Chrome on my laptop

Yes I'm having probs with Firefox.

IE seems to be OK, but I don't like IE and I like Firefox!

But it's very annoying. I can't understand why there doesn't seem to be anything about it online :(

googling

firefox windows font is very faint

brought me

This looks to be it?

not saying it helps you - a few different possibilities - but people seem to be experiencing similar (based on what you wrote anyway)

Either way, IE is awful but so is Firefox these days. Chrome or possibly Safari?

I've always used Opera but there are many problems with later versions. Opera 25 has no Toolbars.

I.E is the most stable but probably the one Browser most open to hackers..

Don't like Firefox. Too many unwanted Add-ons.

Safari seems fast but only use with IOS on ipod.

Google Chrome ? Does not function on my Machine. (Windows 7) Slow..

Untested:- Torch Browser / Web Freer / Comodo IceDragon /

Tor Browser Bundle / Slimjet

DulwichFox

It is caused by a Windows update kb3013455 that mainly affects systems running Vista. Loads on the interweb about it. Search for kb3013455 and all will be revealed. It affects any browser and is something to do with True Type fonts.

I just did a system restore to before the update (which was about 11th Feb) and it cured it. Only problem is if you have Windows Update set to automatic it will re-install kb3013455. Microsoft are supposed to be working on a patch. Don't hold your breath!

Microsoft support article here detailing known problems. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3013455

Didn't realise they were back. They were very popular in the 60's/70's and I had several. Believe it or not I was considered to be very trendy when I wore one. Must have a look in the bottom drawer.

irrational cos I know that it's always nice, but it really annoys me...

my boyfriend always calls me from wherever he is in the house - regardless of what I'm doing.....

I get exasperated (no follow up) so go and see.... only to find he's made me coffee, or breaksfast, or something nice..... but my first reaction is annoyance; why doesn't he know I'm washing my hair, cleaning, on the phone, in the middle of something.....?

am I just selfish?

It's lovely that he's (still) doing thoughtful things. Maybe try telling him what you're doing before you start so he can time it better? I think this is why a lot of us end up giving a running commentary on so that other people can get what they need from it. Or just shout back 'I'm washing my hair'.

    • There's planning permission for 2 houses.  Southwark planning site is too slow today to use, but found this link from Savills to auction the site: https://auctions.savills.co.uk/auctions/19--26-november-2024-158/3335-hansler-road-east-dulwich-london-se22-9dj-13236   Edited to add that the inclusion of lower ground floor in the planning application description indicates that basements will be dug.  Looks like Fellbrigg/Hansler is up for some heavy construction traffic next year.

    • Absolutely, Insuflo I very much doubt that anyone other than football fans would have heard of Dyche, much less his views on false number nines, mobile centre halves  dropping into midfield or diamond formations. But all middle-aged, portly, bald, gruffly spoken football fans from north of the capital who eschew fancy Dan tactics for the traditional, English merits of 4-4-2 shall be deemed knuckle-dragging Neanderthals by the Wokerati and the Metropolitan Elite. They care not what his views are, only that he looks like the sort of person who may have them. It's political correctness gone mad. But they, unlike Dyche, won't have a pub named after them.
    • I'm afraid I have no idea who Sean Dyche is, but I'm sure I could research him (and his views on library refurbishment timetables, if any) on any of the Southwark libraries' internet access computers. Free for any library member!
