Good private physio? Kings hospital too crap

After a waiting list of 7 months, I finally got to see a physio at Kings College Hospital, but I'm really unimpressed because there's no momentum. I see a different person each time, so have to repeat my history, I have to wait 6 weeks between appointments and they don't offer very late nights. I tend to get the 6pm appointment, by which time they're clearly tired and wanting to go home themselves.

Sorry to say that, as I'm a huge supporter of the NHS and never entertained the thought of private. But here goes.

Any recommendations for someone local? The problem is regarding hypermobility and a weak core.

I can highly recommend Lewisham Hopsital Physio Dept - they do private consultations and you can self refer.

I have been to Crystal Palace in the past and while good, i think it is expensive. After several sessions there, i ended up having to go back to my GP as the problem was persistent and then i got an NHS referral to Lewisham. 3 sessions later (2 weeks between sessions and the same person each time) and the propbelm was solved. Andrew McCarter is especially good and i was really impressed.

Try British school of ostopathy In Borough..reasonable and reaaly reaaly excellebt.

I have the same hyper mobility and low core stability problem and they've sorted me out usually within 4-6 treatments sometimes less.

They recommended Pilates which I now do and thankfully I've been so much better.

A second recommendation for ESPH physios. Have recently been seeing Sophie and she's good.

Have similar issues with hypermobility and weak core. I was recommended general strength training, which I think has helped, and also find yoga and pilates good as long as you pay attention to not locking out knees and elbows. Have also been doing some "nerve flossing" exercises for arms that I feel have made a big difference. Feel free to PM for more details, I'd be happy to share my programme.

I would stay away from ESPH. I can highly recommend Rachel Neal, she is a lifesaver. She got me through my marathon training and is very perceptive and puts you totally at ease. I have slight hypermobility which she picked up on and helped with.

Good luck!

Just in support of Kings, I waited approx 6wks for physio, saw the same chap 3 times in a 6wk period (he apologised that was spread out too much but just happened to coincide with his annual 2wk big holiday in the middle of it and didn't want discontinuity of care), was able to talk through what I felt was and wasn't working by way of his additional recommended home exercises and am now booked into one of their weekly exercise classes.

    • A new roadmap (surely railmap?!) for rail accessibility has been published: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accessible-railways-roadmap It says "approximately 56% of stations and around 66% of the 1.3 billion journeys that take place on the network have step-free access to platforms...  "£373 million has been committed over the next 5 years to deliver Access for All projects, providing step-free access from station entrances to and between platforms, alongside other essential accessibility upgrades. These works, together, will increase the number of step-free stations across Great Britain from 56% to 58%. "This improvement will make travel easier with step-free access available at stations covering an increased share of total rail journeys – from 66% up to 71%" Don't know what that means for us here: upgrading Peckham Rye would cover a lot of rail journeys but the cost has no doubt increased from the £40m figure previously quoted. So that would eat into a lot of the funding.
    • It's not really though, is it. It's practical.  At least we're allowed Christmas lights.
