Anyone ever been?

My main questions are:

1. I'm not a beginner. But I'm not a solid lump of rippling biking muscle either - what is the general standard like?

2. Presumably rain = cancelled, right?

3. I have my own track bike, kitted out for roads (ie it has a brake) - do they discourage this and make you use theirs, or is it worth bringing ?

4. On a fitness scale of 1-10, how fit would you say you have to be to survive the morning? (I rate about 6 ; )

I believe they have groups for all levels of experience and fitness. Check out this link:

FAQ

Looks like they would ask you to remove the brake or use one of their bikes and they run induction sessions to see what level you are at.

I know a lot of people who have been along and enjoyed themselves. They seem to be pretty inclusive. There's also an open night on Tuesdays where you can ride any type of bike, just for fitness and I think they've introduced sunday morning sessions too.

The induction sessions on saturday mornings (9AM), or the monday induction sessions (5PM), are great as long as you can ride a bike. I turned up on monday with only one other there to join me. Its no trouble to use one of their bikes and the guys there are really friendly and helpful. maybe see you down there on a monday =)

    • Sorry for dragging this back on topic, but earlier I had a discussion with Luca the site manager who was also singing the praises of the 'new' waste management team. He invited me on to the ground to the east of the 'parkrun start' path to check out how well they'd done. Within 20 paces I'd picked up (and given to him) 2 cellophane filter tip wrappers, 3 fag butts, a 2" screw, assorted scraps of plastic wrappers....! He awkwardly then said they were still onsite, and sent 1 guy out to litter pick. He also made the statement that it's "an impossible task". I will be over there tomorrow to find, collect and document all the remaining litter, to assist with next year's consultation. I think it's important to pass on that type of information?
    • Hi My friend who’s a local tree surgeon unfortunately had his small Stihl petrol chainsaw stolen last week. As a tree surgeon, this is pretty gutting.    I wondered whether anyone on here might have a spare secondhand one that they don’t use anymore. Or perhaps one that’s been left in a shed or garage gathering dust that isn’t needed. Joe would be delighted and very grateful if we could magic him a replacement soon! 🤩 Thanks so much!  Claire (07946) 728879
    • Thanks to Coe and Lard  for playing this, hadn't heard it for so so long,  This is a poor recording, but predates the punk explosion  of the late 70s, so ahead of the game....
    • I don't eat meat but if I had an air rifle the various vermin would be very afraid.  I've trapped squirrels in the loft, I wont go any further on that one. The Horniman Nature Reserve rats will take on any of yours, apart from.... Cox's walk which takes on another level.  During Covid it felt like you were in Hamelin.
