Mugged by gang of boys

I think we?re asking the wrong questions. If somehow we can muster a thousands-strong army of police to attack, harass and abuse largely peaceful and law abiding people why aren?t they on the streets letting their aggression out on criminals instead?

The police are basically thugs (I know this as 2 of my best mates are police. Coincidentally, one of them will agree with me on this and the other will want to have a barney) but they are supposed to be thugs who are on our side. They are supposed to be out there giving what-for to the thugs who aren?t on our side.

We can, quite rightly, blame parents etc. but we employ this paramilitary style police force. Why aren?t they working for the public good?

Having to shoot someone yourself because there is no functional or interested police force is not the answer in a civilised country no matter how much of a bonner the idea gives some people.

This "mess" is here to stay Guys, the overwhelming majority of kids in Gangs join up to feel they are in a protective Family, as the overwhelming majority have little contact with any Father Figure and Mum is left to bring the Family up on her own, usually, while holding down 2 jobs as well.

So the hard-pushed Mother is often absent, thru' no fault of her own, as well.

There's often few Male Teachers in their formative years, as well to exarcerbate the situation.

Once these kids join Gangs there are "territorial" or "post-code" problems.

Add to that the ultra-competitive workplace and a desire to think its "cool" NOT to study hard in the case of most Gang Members and there chances of getting a "normal" job are severely limited.

However these same Guys are bombarded with daily images of the delights that money can bring so they desire money and lots of it, but how to get it???

There's one clear solution to their problems and its not what any of us want to hear but its the harsh reality of life, both now, and, most certainly, in the future.

I would heavily suspect that most criminally minded Guys will find the sentences they receive as being lightweight so again there's no deterrent and add to that the lack of a desire for people to get involved (even when they are victims themselves!) and its "Game On" for The Crims....and as its made so easy for them, canyou seriously blame them for accepting our gifts?

To add to the problem I know from many conversations with some "ne'er do-wells" as The Dogs and at Football that they will target people who they believe are least resistant and areas that they believe are least resistant.

Diddums. So daddy wasn?t around. They still get the same access to education, healthcare and housing as millions of other kids in the same situations who manage to become functional members of society.

If the police stop criminality from being an option kids will have to find other routes.

But Brendan some of these Guys are brought up on rough Estates where they are surrounded by Criminals displaying their "swag" and ill-gotten gains and seeing how easy it is these days for the "Crims" surely we, as a Society. can not blame them for taking something that is almost being handed to them with little meaningful deterrents....

We do not know the trauma these poor Guys went thru' without suitable guidance...

Surely the point is that yes anyone can say "well i was poor and I made it out" but at a societal level we know that the odds increase dramatically against that happening. Some people will make it out but mathematically the systems in place mean that it's effectively a quota

I don't want to be too bleeding heart about it and nor do I want to excuse any criminal behaviour - but if we are talking about root causes..

They HAVE been cleaned up Brendan!

Peckham, for example, is a much more pleasing and aethsetically better place than the old Peckham of The 1970's/1980's Five notorious Estates...some/most of them have been knocked down, Thank Heavens....

Some Guys are given little chance in life and the cardsare stacked against them so is it any wonder so many resort to foul play when life has been "foul" to them from the moment they left the Womb?:(

However if you do want my "tuppence worth" I strongly suspect that most Families will move away from Inner London, to give their children a better start in life, as "they" perceive it.

I think most people will come to the conclusion, who are in a position to be mobile, that London is fine for the single life but not so great for raising a Family.

Certainly in conversations with Ex-Londoners, both in The Suburbs and in The CountrySIDE, I hear that over and over...

At the risk of exacerbating this, I wasn?t talking about root causes I?m talking about practical solutions.

You can?t make people sort out their personal relationships but you can provide them with schools, houses, sporting facilities and a police force that will stop crime taking route in their communities.

So that?s 3 out of 4 then.
