Wanted: Views on a White Noise Machine

Hi,

I just wondered if anyone had ever purchased one of these to counteract noise. We have a bedroom at the front of the house and live on a busy main road so each night we hear a great deal of traffic noise. I have found a company that sell these machines and the white noise they produce is meant to block out almost all the noise. They are expensive so just wanted to see if anyone can recommend them/has had experience? Would we better just getting a fishtank with a filter for example in the room that makes a noise or are these machines really that different?

Two options. You can download white noise fro the internet and play it via your smartphone/tablet etc.

Or, what I found really useful to combat traffic noise is a free standing fan. Like white noise the thing about the sound they make is that it is continuous and I found it quite soothing and sleepmaking.

Yes, try online versions first.

I liked the sound of the idea, but not the real sound.

It just drove me mad, not comfy or soothing at all.

But it works for a lot of people, best to try it out.
