Anybody else thinking of renting their homes out for the Olympics?

As long as the ELLE/London Overground is completed on time, ED should be ideally placed to attract visitors.

Personally, I am not that bothered about watching the sport, perhaps the Beach Volleyball. So could be a nice little earner and the opportunity to go on holiday and miss the traffic chaos, security scares and general arsing about.

As it is ED is 12 minutes by train to London Bridge and then Jubilee Line straight to Stratford. With the London Overground there will then also be a direct link from either Peckham Rye or Denmark Hill to Canada Water and then onto the Jubilee line. We are close to Stratford than the West End.

Reports are that there will be alot of people looking for a place to stay and Hotels will be hugely expensive and booked up in advance.

Not sure what affect the Olympics will have on ED rental market but friends who were in Sydney during their Olympics found themselves turfed out of their rental property so it could be rented for a short amount of time for incredibly inflated prices. In years after, property prices went up considerably - I suppose lots of people seeing Sydney for the first time wanted part of a lovely city.

    • Thanks for the suggestions! If the Angel Oak is the pub on the edge of the Rye, it's probably not too far, but there might be more central (to East Dulwich) pubs to try first. No way will Nyge and I  ever  go to the Cherry Tree again, sorry. We had the most appalling Christmas Day meal there,   which cost us nearly two hundred pounds (for two people) without drinks. It was the only place within walking distance  locally which had availability that day, apart from the Plough (which ironically we wanted to avoid after previous bad experiences with the food  there). We did complain at the time, and were given a free bottle of wine (we don't often drink wine and were having beer with the meal) but we did not want to make a huge fuss and spoil other people's day as well.  Our detailed complaints in an email  were never properly addressed, and my last email to the manager was never answered.
    • Looking for an iPod - preferably a classic - with at least 60gb storage.  Anyone have one hiding in a drawer? Thanks.
    • Sorry to have missed this one but hope to make the next.  Re suggestions, is the Angel Oak too far?  Or the Cherry tree
    • Not strictly a new place but new to me: stumbled across a fabulous cocktail bar at 210 Rye Lane - we loved the gorgeous, eclectic interior, they make any cocktail you can imagine and will be doing small plates. Think it's called XOTO? opposite the Tesco express at that end of Rye Lane.
