Here is a brief comparison:

* last.fm limits the number of times you can listen to a song for free

* Spotify inserts adverts between songs

* last.fm generates a radio station based on an artist or a tag; so you won?t just get songs from the artist you named, you?ll also get songs from other artists. Spotify lets you play specific artists only, or just specific albums

* last.fm automatically ?scrobbles? your music and lets you re-find things you?ve played before

* last.fm puts a lot of focus on the social elements, on sharing what you?ve scrobbled, on scrobbling in groups. It?s just as much social network as it is music service

* Spotify does the reverse, it puts the focus on music. There are social aspects to it, but you have to hunt them down (they?re not obvious to start with)

    • A friend of mine was into "skill swap" about 40 years ago. It wasn't within an organised scheme, she just offered services like help with painting in exchange for services received. She upset some people as they carried out their services for a living, I.e. for money. An organised scheme sounds much better.
    • Gosh, that is a blast from the past.  Friends in York were into this, he was an accountant and had things like decorating done in exchange.  Not sure if it was equivalent in terms of hours, and I recall HMRC being interested as it was a way of tax avoidance.   A link for a London wide scheme but have no idea of its popularity: https://www.londonwide.letslink.org/members/index.php
    • Is anyone else having problems trying to register their car for a residents LTN permit for upland road as the council web site only seems to want to allow blue badge holders a permit .
    • Posted around 12 cards 2 weeks prior to 24th December. Had some responses so know people have received them. Had about 20 cards - mixture of hand delivered and via post. After years of 'nagging' by myself and our daughters, we may have cured hubby of spending £4 plus on individual cards for our immediate family  ( when you have 12 immediate family it costs a bomb) Also as the girls state, they get put in the recycling bad at beginning of January regardless of cost.
