intexasatthe moment
the constant noise is driving me insane . Sometimes it's 2 or 3 at the same time . I know it's London and I suppose I've become inured to the airoplanes ,sirens etc but not this incessant high pitched whine . couldn't we co ordinate and have the odd strimmer free day ? Louisa
But it does leave a lovely smell of cut grass in the air wouldn't you agree? To me it's the sound of summer. Far better than rain and car engine noises. Louisa. alice
i'll swap your bucolic strimming for some heavy metal drilling and whinning sewer diggers. DulwichFox
Strimmers are a pain on a summers day... especially petrol ones... ... A 2 stroke strimmer gives out around 95 to 110 decibels so hearing protection needs to be worn Also with all the grass cuttings and dust for anyone nearby who suffers with Hay-Fever it can be very unpleasant. Very anti social ..DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/62897-please-someone-make-the-strimming-stop/#findComment-861428 Share on other sites
Townleygreen
I believe in Germany you are not allowed to use these machines at all on a Sunday, so people can have at least one quiet day at home and in the garden.Sounds a good idea to me!! Jeremy
Glad I don't live in Germany then! Sunday is surely THE day for getting odd jobs done.I can mow the lawn (and strim the edges) at 6:30am on Monday morning if you prefer.. Sue
intexasatthe moment Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> its been weeks ,how much vegetation can there be> left ?Sadly, grass grows :)Very quickly at this time of year :(I guess that's why people have paving, decking and bloody astroturf. Personally I'd rather hear a strimmer outside than loud music, people in the same garden having a conversation by apparently shouting to each other or, as recently, piercing recorder "playing" from someone who couldn't play it.Yeh I know, grumpy old woman. intexasatthe moment
"Sadly, grass grows "The thing is ,once the expanse of overgrown grass is strimmed couldn't a lawn mower be used to keep the grass down ? It's the high pitched whine ( rising even above that of my own voice ) that I can't stand and the use of strimmers in plots near me seem to have replaced lawn mowers . *Bob*
Remember, Sue - these recorder playing kids are your tankard rattling, bearded, fingers-in-ear future. jctg
Over the past few years to the traditional sounds of an English summer, the strimming of hedges, the smack of leather on willow, has been added a new noise... But at least I don't play it very badly in the garden :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/62897-please-someone-make-the-strimming-stop/#findComment-861912 Share on other sites
DulwichFox
I recently saw on BBC's Bargain Hunt a Harmonica which was tuned to accompany Bagpipes. I cannot stand Bagpipes but this most unusual and unique 'instument' is quite beautiful in the right hands / mouth. stringvest
I used to have a cat that would launch into a frenzied attack on anything nearby at the sound of bagpipes !! (and mothers singing !!!)
