(ahem) the Forum picnic is at 3 on Sunday afternoon in Dulwich Park! get yourselves in them there nets early afternnon and then saunter accross for some well earned refreshment and lashings of ginger beer. We'll be on the area in front of the Pavilion Cafe. I guess drinks might be on the cards for later in the Plough.

Ahem, perhaps a little too much inactivity this weekend.

I did chase up venue booking man, though haven't had confirmation back thus far this week. He did seem pretty convinced we'd manage to get one of the 2 grounds at bel-air.

I think it's 30 odd quid rental which isn't much by way of subs.

Do we have alternatives on the off chance we don't get hold of it?

Dunno really, there are other pitches we've played on but I'm not very up on the booking side of things.

However, if all else fails there is a - totally rubbish - "all-weather" pitch on Tooting Bec Common which we could have for free, because no-one plays there (for reasons already stated). I wouldn't advise it though because it can be terrifyingly fast even with pretty slow bowlers like myself. Besides, this should be a Dulwich thing.

Be warned, regarding the Belair pitch one of them is well small - great when one is batting, not so great when bowling. Think it is a "youff" ground. The other one we played on last month and it was alright, bit rubbish bounce but not too bad. I bought some boundary markers the other day too that might help if we get lumped with the rubbish one. ?3.66 from newitts.com by the way, they've got loads of cheap cricket stuff there.

Thirty squid is alright and we'll organise lunch and drinks together as well to make a day of it before the main event - the pub.

Dulwich Cricket Club has a ground available for rent midweek and also some good quality nets that could potentially be used for free the week before on say a Wednesday night.

Whoever is organising should contact Matthew Craig on 020 7501 8604 to discuss.

If we have a midweek game then I might be able to play too. Otherwise I'll be playing a bit more serious version (the type where you wait until AFTER the game to drink :)-D ) for my club on the 18th :( .

Great bump, I was just about to say that I've booked the available third (and rather small, good for us amateurs) cricket pitch at belair park for the 18th, 1pm for a hlaf day game, followed by the pub of course.

To answer your question, we've had a lot of interest, but there's a difference between interest and people turning up, as sean and citizen found out in the forum picnic *ahem*

So yeah, be delighted if you want to join in the fun.

Fear, do we still have the sign up form at the CPT, as according to the paperwork I did today, we're officially the Crystal Palace Tavern Cricket Club?

Mockney, I have a feeling something happened to that bit of paper. There were a fair few names on it, but it had disappeared last time I looked.... I'll look in to it!

Mentioned it to Nathan, and if he can get the time off, he is definitely up for it, and would be a welcome addition to the team I think!

Sadly that pitch was the only one available.

A certain member of the forum was going to book it up a while back, but never quiiiite got around to it, so had a dig around today.

Took quite some navigation of the southwark council internal telephone network, such that they thought i was a council worker by the end, but got there eventually.

Don't believe the website when it describes the number as the park sports booking hotline!!!!

    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
