jimmy two times
I overheard somewhere last week that The is a Sopranos movie being made. Anyone else heard about this? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6423-sopranos-movie/ Share on other sites
Keef
I remember reading after the last series that there were lots of discussions about it, but haven't heard anything recent. Imagine there could be issues, it took them ages to get the last few episodes out because of pay rows. bigbadwolf
I'm not sure it would work jimmy as a lot the key cast were killed off. I thoroughly enjoyed the series though and really admire HBO for their depth when coming up with new material. HonaloochieB
I wonder how it would run giving the ending of the last series. There was certainly scope for another series, not sure about a film though. I suppose it would have to be a 'stand alone' rather than a continuation of the series. Not sure about this one.Though if it means that b*stard Paulie Walnuts getting whacked then I'm all for it.Really grew to dislike him after he killed his old mum's mate. And his behaviour to her after he found out she was his aunt was utterly despicable. bigbadwolf
The guy that played him (Tony Sirico) was an actual mobster who has spent a great deal of his life behind bars. I personally felt a bit sorry for him as he came across as very thick and the part of 'crew' to most likely to used to take a fall i.e be betrayed. HonaloochieB
I don't know BBW, he seemed to be pretty cunning when it came to forming alliances and looking after number one.Remember all the crap he caused after he revealed the banter about Jeannie Sac's bottom? He was an operator and no mistake.Though I think he was thought by the others not to be the sharpest knife in the box.One of my favourite exchanges was between him and Ralphie. The crew is seated outside a cafe, they are awaiting Ralphie so that a financial dispute that's been simmering between the two can be mediated by Tony. Eventually Ralphie shows up.Paulie - You're late.Ralphie - OK, tomorrow I'll be on time but you'll still be stoopid. bigbadwolf
I think my favourite scene with him was when they're discussing another member of the crew's alarming weight loss and Silvio raised the possibility that it could be the wasting symptom of the AID's virus. Whilst they loudly raise and question each others reaction to this insight Paulie is then seen vigorously washing his hands whilst looking sternly into the mirror as he was the last one to shake hands with the man in question. Horsebox
I also heard about this sometime after the last episode. I read that it would be based around the rise of the Jersey family and with Johnny Boy Soprano and a much younger Uncle Junior as the central characters.Without using the key characters and actors that made the series so good (especially Dominic Chianese as Uncle June) it sounds like it has the potential to be 2 and a half hours of epic fail. bigbadwolf
Which would be a shame as I'd hate to see the image of the Soprano's sullied with the same meddling as Only fools and horses and Green green grass which was frankly embarrassing to watch. jimmy two times
I too heard it may involve Tony's dad, Johnny Boy and Uncle Junior. I suppose it could also show Tony as an up and coming made guy and then how he got to be a capo.James Gandolfini would have to lose a hell of a lot of weight to carry this off though. With regards to Paulie, he always had some of the best lines and he was probably the most loyal to Tony in the end (along with Sylvio). bigbadwolf
Hmmmm........interesting. I think HBO would've done whole 'younger, earning his spurs' Tony better if they'd payed a bit more attention to this angle in the series such as flashbacks or when he was in a coma instead of the Buddhist monks nonsense. jimmy two times
I did also read somewhere that David Chase had considered a film about the young Tony but the problem was finding someone to play the part. Tony is such a big personality and force of nature that it would be very difficult to find a convincing actor to play him as a young up and coming wiseguy. Keef
I do remember at least one flashback to Tony's dad and Uncle Junior... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6423-sopranos-movie/#findComment-205695 Share on other sites
Horsebox
Keef Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I do remember at least one flashback to Tony's dad> and Uncle Junior...Yes, there were quite a few, usually linked to his therapy sessions and often involving violence and meat. Although they were interesting and served a purpose, I would find it hard to imagine anyone else as Uncle June or, indeed, Tony himself, even as younger versions of these characters.Imagine somebody trying to do a decent impression of Silvio's downturned pouty face and that shrug? Keef
Yes, it's a good point, and no actor springs to mind. Would have to be an unknown I think. Not the same thing, but they have just recreated younger versions of some VERY famous characters for star trek... ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6423-sopranos-movie/#findComment-205704 Share on other sites
jimmy two times
I think it worked in Star Trek quite well, but this could be attributed to the distance between the original series and the new film, as well as good quality acting. Plus I don't think the original star trek characters had the same depth as Tony Soprano's character. It would be a tough call for any young character actor to pull off. Not forgetting the same trick would have to be performed on Paulie, Sylv, Carmella etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6423-sopranos-movie/#findComment-205803 Share on other sites
bigbadwolf
It might just be me but I always saw a striking resemblance in Jonathon Ross and Silvio, there suits were equally disastrous.
