I shall be pointlessly blogging into the ether on "Yer Fired!" after this as well. Sod it, what have I got to lose?

Howard looks like he has too many teeth for his mouth.

"I AM a brave warrior!"

Lorraine knows she's going home in a taxi. "Natural business acumen" my arse.

Don't mention your kids, Lorraine, remember what happened to Katie Hopkins.

Kate: "I'm blonde and lovely, keep me, keep me!"

OH MY GOD! I did NOT see that coming!

Howard goes home!

Lorraine got away with that by the skin of her teeth.

Well, that leaves just one bloke in the final five. James, of all people, you'd never have bet on that one.

God, they're a poor lot this year.

Howard: "I'm gutted... maybe I need to be more of a maverick in the future."

Don't be a maverick, Howard, people who are mavericks are all tossers.

I used to love Howard's Way. Top Sunday evening entertainment. They should remake it with Martin Clunes. Everything else has Martin Clunes in it, so why not?

Weird cultural schism, just turned over to BBC2 where Armando Iannucci is reading from "Paradise Lost".

Hope this week's "Yer Fired" has got some decent guests for a change. Recent standard has been very poor.

Adrian Chiles! I would.

I made a deliberate point of not watching Reggie Perrin. Some things should not be messed with. leonard Rossiter is one of them.

Oh God, not Rufus "Who?" Hound. That bloke really thinks he's funny. They should get Hugh Dennis back, he was much better. Does anyone else remember him when he was in the Mary Whitehouse Experience?

Blah, boring woman guest who works for minor shopping channel, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Herding cats, that's something I'd like to see.

Howard's coming across as actually a reasonable human being. Not a massive tw*t like Ben and Philip. Past viewing of this show has proven that you do, unfortunately, need to be a little bit of a massive tw*t to win this show.

Kate is "faultless", apparently.

That really is quite sickening.

It'd be interesting to see a Debra/ Kate face-off in the final. Although the tabloids would have a field day with appalling "Beauty & The Beast" style headlines.

James! James! James!

Unfortunately he has about as much chance of winning as I do.

Time to vote.

Margaret thinks Lorraine should have gone.

So does Rufus and the Boring Woman.

And so do the audience! That's a rare sight, a sea of "You're Hired"s. Only because they all hate Lorraine though.

isn't it funny how when they show clips of the first few episodes you've already forgotten those people's names? What was the American woman called? Who's that?

Aaaaaaaand it's all over for another week. Thanks for reading (or not) and good night!

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
