Hey people,

have any of you had any embarrassing incidents in ED (apart from the obvious drunken ones)?? the other day, I was in the newsagents opposite dulwich library & the skinny guy behind the counter made a quip at my expense..it wasn't even funny but a stoopid old customer started to roar with laughter at it..i left the shop totally embarrassed & vowed never to set foot in there again..well until i needed to renew my oyster card..

i can't remember it - i was in "flight or fight" mode but it really wasn't funny. it was made worse by the fact that, in all the confusion, I left my oyster card on the reader & he called me back to get it..:-$

Various incidents spring to mind on the 176 nightbus Andy but whilst looking for the toilet and walking in on my mate Steve's parents 69ing each other will always remain a firm favourite.

That actually happened I'm afraid and I think you'll all agree it's a 10 out of 10 on the old red face guage.

I always end up falling asleep on that bl**dy bus and ending up in that godforsaken penge or worse, on diversion to crystal palace...to make matters worse, i fell asleep on the bus last week, holding a full maccas coke & spilt it all over my jeans so it looked like i wet myself..

btw, If anyone sees a dorky guy ( possibly smelling/holding or mumbling about blue cocktails) asleep on the 176 as its going thru dulwich in the small hours on a friday nite, please wake him up at dulwich library...thanks!!

I think I was about 13 or 14 Daizie. Thank fully they were too caught up in the moment/act to notice me. I returned to his room in a state of shock but whilst leaning against the doorway to his room I mustered the strength to shreik "there's been a horrible accident, call a doctor".

I used to do that when I worked in TCR years ago, once I fell asleep and woke up during the return journey to Oxford Street at the bus stop just before the one I should have got off in the other direction. I would have freaked if I woke up in Oxford Street. That happened a lot, especially after a sesh. How does it go again, you get kicked off at Penge cross the road and wait for the but to turn round and get back on it again. Totaly nutts.

    • This is simply untrue. The area is not 2/3 storeys maximum. Hambledon Court is on the other side of tracks from the Jewson site on Burrow Rd, is 8 storeys, and is barely known (let alone bothersome) to most people in East Dulwich. Felbridge House, Petworth House etc on the opposite side of the station from the new development are all 5 storeys tall. East Dulwich Charter (which neighbours the new development) is itself 4-5 storeys (depending on which block you're talking about). What's more, Hambledon Court was finished in about 1978 iirc and no-one has built anything similar around here since then - so the "slippery slope" "genie in the bottle" argument doesn't work either. You can't simultaneously argue that Southwark is too slow in approving new construction but also suggest this will lead to a flood of new high-rise housing! At current rates of approval, we can expect our next 8 storey building to arrive in...2072!
    • I checked - the Hanway Street place was Mandeer - it moved to New Oxford Street I think and was replaced by Hakkasan - very different prices.
    • Suppose it depends on how many Christmas cards from family and friends you’re waiting to receive. It’s been the Christmas period so surely give the post delivery service some leeway. Like Sue I’ve not posted off so many this year but some I still write letters to  e.g my late mum’s cousins and other family  but hey ho that’s something I do and enjoy.  I used to hand deliver Christmas cards to a lot of neighbours on my street but gave up this year as realised that most of them I don’t see or speak to and can only count on a few to call a true friend or neighbour.
