CHOPSTICK chinese restaurant - what happened???

Recommended Posts

I always wanted/curious to know why this lovely & only decent chinese restaurant in the area closed down. It's our second fav restaurant whenever we couldn't be bothered to go to Chinatown.

Any idea why it closed down?

Ah I suppose our experience was rather different as we became quite firendly with the owner & her daughter. So that everytime we order either takeaway or eat in & always asked for specific way of cooking , say fish or any other dish, they're quite compliant.

I asked the veg shop next door the other day & he said that she probably just retired.

You could call it "The Merideth".

Hang some eccentric lampshades and mirrors in there. Del-boy wallpaper on one wall. Art donated by Camberwell students. Perhaps some continental lager on tap, such as Budvar or Perroni.

Maybe do some "more fancy than average pub" food such as "tuna steak with wasabi veloute" or "poussin avec beurre noisette".

It will go down a treat.

Yeh, can't remember ever having a decent meal there, kept thinking it would be better this time but it never was.

    • I certainly hope she’s not standing down. She’s a great MP both locally and nationally.
    • I had certainly heard that Helen Hayes was planning to stand down from being an MP - although I don't think I've seen that confirmed anywhere that I recall. If so, that is a shame, she was generally very competent and she knew the area well. A very good constituency MP and  had performed reasonably creditably in a minor Front Bench role. A loss to Parliamentary politics, in my view, if she is standing down.
    • We've just bought a previously tenanted flat which has come with a large amount of cutlery and cooking utensils which we'd be happy to give away.
    • Sadly this means for those of us who live within this ward the brilliant Helen Hayes will no longer represent us (that is if she's standing again). The Labour candidate for Lewisham West and East Dulwich is Ellie Reeves who has been MP for West Lewisham and Penge before the redrawing of boundaries.  She is sister to Rachel Reeves.
