mrsps
Just wondering if it's completely necessary or acceptable for the timber yard near East Dulwich station to start using their vehicles before 8am with the incredibly loud "stand clear, vehicle reversing" sound that their machines use. Are they not subject to the same noise rules as other builders etc?! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/65271-timber-yard-noise/ Share on other sites
Mike Dodd
I take it the builders yard was already there when you moved there Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/65271-timber-yard-noise/#findComment-870111 Share on other sites
Otta
Haha, that was my first thought to be honest. Shops load up stock very early, guess they're the same. They're not really builders are they. henryb
Certainly sounds annoying. 8am is normally the reasonable start time for construction noise although this isn't that category. No harm contacting Southwark to ask about it.http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/412/noise_problems Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/65271-timber-yard-noise/#findComment-870153 Share on other sites
Penguin68
It's a timber yard, an industrial site. This is completely different from building work in a residential area. If you choose to live near a commercial/ industrial site, that's the deal. mrsps
Thanks all. Point taken about my choice of where I live etc etc, I do just think that this much noise starting at 6.45 or before is not ideal! henryb
Simply because is it an existing business doesn't make it exempt from Noise Pollution legislation. I think you are perfectly in your rights to be annoyed and complain. Maybe you could try talking to them first? Can those reversing alarms be turned off or down? lpool
We had problems several years ago from the builders yard round back of East Dulwich Station with the reverse beeps of their vehicles resonating across St Francis Estate very early in the morning. They managed to tone them down - not sure how. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/65271-timber-yard-noise/#findComment-870213 Share on other sites
Otta
I do have sympathy when it comes to the reversing alarms. Years ago I lived in a flat in Liverpool right opposite the loading bay at the back of an Aldi. Every morning I was woken up by "BEEP BEEP. THIS VEHICLE IS REVERSING" Repeated over and over for several minutes. Cora
Contact planning enforcement and ask what is stated in their change of use....we had problems for several years turned out they shouldn't have been doing any of the stuff they were doing before 8am. I would guess it will be the same in this situation. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/65271-timber-yard-noise/#findComment-870379 Share on other sites

Rishd
Do the trains not drown out noise from the timber yard? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/65271-timber-yard-noise/#findComment-870904 Share on other sites
