Israel: another middle-eastern state dominated by fanatical religious ideas and with loads of Bombs has managed to indoctrinate the entire western world with its bizarre beliefs.

Where is the logic in supporting one and opposing the other?

hi hal !

well simple, really

The jewish state does not see it as a slight against their existence to not believe in their religious beliefs.....that's the logic + the fact that the leader of israel has never stated that another country needs to be wiped of the map, plus the fact that you have never seen a press conference where 10's of thousands of citizens of a jewish state are shouting "death to the uk" as i just witnessed on sky.

whatever my issues with israel they pale into insignificance with that of a state run by a bunch of fucking loonies, aytollha my arse, if he posted on here i would take him to the cleaners and still have enough left for after's. There is nothing Holy about that man, nothing.

Israel's existence relies on acceptance of the irrational notion of divinely appointed sovereignty. Those who deny that premise are considered enemies of the state.

Except Palestine, of course.

Tell that to all the Brits killed when Israeli terrorists bombed the King David Hotel.

Or the many individuals killed by MOSSAD death squads.

Or the thousands of Palestinians killed at Sabra and Shatila.

Or the hundreds of children killed in Gaza.

Yet they look very much like the Ultra Orthodox loonies that hold the balance of power in Israel.

Holy? I was hoping for a rational discussion.

As long as one religiously deluded state is armed with nuclear weapons, the others will also want them.

I too have issues with the way Israel conducts itself in fact rather than in it's rhetoric, but it is a state that would prefer peace even if it seems a bit stupid in the ways to achieve it.

Bringing up the David hotel helps noone, it's like saying we can't trust the german because they didn't keep their promises at Munich.

Like Israel, Iran has a large and sophisticated professional tier who would prefer reform and peace, bt they are ruled by a ruling elite that when it is by definition extremely conservative and like any revolutionary generation hugely paranoid.

Israel isn't ruled by hardliners, though they have a voice disproportionate to their popular support (the hardliners in Iran do enjoy popular support, hence why the mullahs took control after the shah was bright down by an extremely broad coalition and why the current standoff is potentially so fraught, it could essentially be a revisit f the post revolutionary struggle, but this time the reformers know the price of failure) and their government ers on the side of hawkish. To compare the two however s unhelpful and disingenuous. I'd elaborate more, but fecking iPhones aren't fun.

Neatly dissected but still a rubbish argument, those comparisons are weak arsed.

The chances of letting Iran have a bomb should be less than zero. If the people don't rise up an overthrow this bunch of religious fruitcakes then there will be a lot of civilain casualties. Thats what will happen, fact.

I would rather give the biggest guy in the playground a hammer than hand it to the smallest and most insecure one, it's a fact of life.

Which they can't ... Next.

Iran has simply learnt the bvious lessons of Iraq v n Korea. If you ACTULLY have WMD you don't get invaded. Attacking Israel with nukes would only result in MAD. Even the mullahs aren't that stupid.

I'd rather they didn't have them but then I'd rather we obeyed our duties as signatories to the nuclear non proliferation treaty and didn't renew trident so no joy all rOund

I don't think it'll be long until the Iranian's get their hands on nuclear weapons. They'll probably just end up buying one on Ebay of the Russians and it'll be delivered in a wooden box and left under the kitchen sink until Isreal has the cheek to open a Macdonalds on the Gaza strip.

It is highly questionable whether Israel has the military capability to destroy Iran's nuclear program, or even to delay it for several years.

Should the approaches made by the Obama administration not prove fruitful and who can predict in these new times, then Iran will possess nuclear weapons in a relatively short time.

Consequently, Jerusalem need to adjust their mindset to accomodate an Iran with a nuclear strike capability against Israel.

Israel has over egged the pudding with the Iranian threat in my view.

Certainly, the regime in Tehran is an embittered and intransigent rival, however it is a leap from there to proving a real existential threat to Israel.

Iran's delving into regional terror is worrying, but financially supporting terrorism amd the intent to engage in a nuclear exchange with Israel are a quantum distance apart.

MAD, will prevail in the region and deter attacks.

There has to come a time to desist from potraying a threat which may not materialise, hold back from sabre rattling, which presents the serious possibility of unencumbered escalation.

    • Whilst I agree, I have been thinking about this recently in relation to some of the other posts on here about anti social behaviour. We are all products of our upbringing - our experiences at home, school and beyond - plus whatever we have inherited genetically which might affect our behaviour (the nature/nurture thing). So in this case, if people haven't been brought up to love and appreciate trees and other wild things, plus as you say they may be deeply unhappy (or have other undiagnosed issues) it's easy to see how they could have ended up doing this. Also, it's possible they had quite low intelligence and didn't really grasp what they were doing and the effect it would have on so many other people. But that's just surmise and possibly completely wrong. From what I've read about it, they seemed to be two mates egging each other on, like two big kids. I'm not for a minute excusing what they did, and it's right they should be punished, but I really hope they might get some sort of rehabilitation in prison (it would  be appropriate to have them do some kind of community service like planting saplings, wouldn't it, or working in woodland conservation). And the same goes for phone robbers and shoplifters (rehabilitation, not planting saplings), though for SOME  shoplifters there might also be other issues at play, not excluding poverty. Sorry Jasonlondon,  I've gone off at a real tangent here, lucky it's in the lounge! Oh oops I've just noticed it isn't. Sorry admin. Oh, and then there's a whole philosophical discussion to be had about free will and determinism ..... 🤣🤣🤣
    • Thanks! I'll find out in a few weeks when I get the results! It was one of those disconcerting things where a disembodied voice keeps booming  at you to breathe in and hold it, then breathe normally. Apart from that it was OK, all completely painless. I imagine there will be quite a few people going from ED, though I presume it covers the whole Southwark area
    • Two men behind ‘senseless’ felling of Sycamore Gap tree jailed for more than four years Good to see these two jailed today for four years. There’s something deeply disturbing about people who destroy trees—any tree. Whether it’s a centuries-old landmark or a sapling in a quiet park, trees are living beings that offer beauty, shade, and life. The men who cut down the Sycamore Gap tree are a stark example of how far some people will go to lash out at something peaceful and meaningful. People who harm nature like this aren’t just destructive—they are often deeply unhappy. It takes a troubled mind to look at a tree and see something to ruin instead of something to protect.
