lj57
Front right seat upstairs every time, as that's the upstairs driver's seat. They should install toy steering wheels to encourage people to head to the top deck. Sue
What REALLY REALLY REALLY annoys me are two people travelling together, one of whom sits upstairs in the front left seat and the other one in the front right. So they talk to each other across the gap and there's a spare seat next to each.I asked one of them politely to move the other day (the one on the left, obv), much to the embarrassment of my OH.He did, with rather bad grace - but they then proceeded to diss me from the front right seat in some East European (I think) language. Which I couldn't understand, but I sort of picked up the gist :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/69324-top-deck-of-bus/page/3/#findComment-884125 Share on other sites
Earl Aelfheah
If there were other seats available I don't think it really fair to ask them to move. Sue
rahrahrah Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> If there were other seats available I don't think> it really fair to ask them to move.Even when they're hogging the whole of the front of the bus?I think it's reasonable to ask that four people can see out the front rather than just two.But each to their own. I wouldn't have pressed the point if they'd refused. Earl Aelfheah
It's different if they're taking up more than one seat, but if they're just sitting apart, you can still sit down next to either of them. Otta
I'm with rahrahrah. If the upper deck was busy and the only option was to either sit next to one of them or ask one of them to move next top their mate, then fine. But if there were plenty of seats available, then why should they move just so that you could have your favourite seat? I'd have said no to be honest. Louisa
See this is why I don't use public transport. I would have to sit where I wanted to sit, even if it was inconvenient for other commuters. I'm very wary of enclosed spaces as it is, just have to find my comfort zone. My sister is just the same. Louisa. Otta
I'd say there's plenty of space to be used and as such I don't want to sit shoulder to shoulder with my mate. And I am quite taken aback that you're asking for it, as is your clearly embarrassed other half.To put it another way, if you were in a half empty cinema and someone had gotten to your favourite seat before you (seats not booked, first come first served) would you ask them to move?To me it's the same thing. Blah Blah
Also if you are a couple of tall stocky guys, sitting next to each other becomes a tight fit. I'm not stocky but I am tall and it's more comfortable to sit over the edge of the seat rather than cramming my knees into the limited space in front.I can understand asking someone if they would move if there are no other places to sit together, but asking someone to move because they are in your favourite spot? Don't know what I think about that. It doesn't strike me odd that you (Sue) asked one to move, but it does strike me as odd that you can't understand why they didn't understand why you'd ask them to move when other seats were avaialable. It gives a signal of your right to that seat being more than theirs. Nigello
The first pair of seats behind the stairwell upstairs (on a standard double decker), with a window and extra legroom, is like premium economy. Shame that fellow passengers can be verminous: just got off one that was full of discarded newspapers and other litter.
