giggirl
Maybe you have heard about this but early next week all UK mobiles will be on a directory which will mean that anyone will be able to access the numbers. It is easy to unsubscribe but it must be done before the beginning of next week to make sure that you are ex directory. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/8091621.stmAll numbers including those belonging to children will be open to cold calling and the general abuse that less scrupulous telesales people subject us too. To remove your number go here. (you need your mobile phone with you to do this, they text you a code) http://www.118800.co.uk/removeme/remove-me.html Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6948-make-your-mobile-ex-directory/ Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
they won't be able to get your number - they will be able to ring a service, ask for you and you will be contacted to see if you want to take they callI'm not worrying Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6948-make-your-mobile-ex-directory/#findComment-222339 Share on other sites
OutOfFocus
they won't be able to get your number - they will be able to ring a service, ask for you and you will be contacted to see if you want to take they callNot sure I see the difference. I resent getting unsolicited calls (especially on my mobile). A 118800 operative asking me whether I want a call is just as much of an unsolicited call as a sales call. sophiesofa
A child should in theory never be rung up, it's only if they lied about their age or it's in their parents name that they would be rung. All that happens is you get a text (i think possibly a call) from 118800 saying so and so wants to talk to you, here's his number, your number is never given out. I think it has been blown completely out of proportion. I don't think cold calling will happen because it costs ?1 to use the service. KalamityKel
Does it not only work if whoever is trying to contact you can provide your full name and town (not just by saying London) that you live in? sophiesofa
yes it does have it's flawes. If you had an obscure name and put in London and were in the directory then I think it would work otherwise it will ask you to be more specific about area. Queen of Dulwich
This is what is said on the website:-----Search here to find out if we have the mobile phonenumber of your contact. If we do, we text them with your details so they can callyou back. We never give out the mobile numbers of people in our directory to protect privacy. You will be charged ?1 for the text to be sent, but it's free for your contact.--- Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6948-make-your-mobile-ex-directory/#findComment-222568 Share on other sites
giggirl
I don't want any unsolicated calls from anybody. I don't want to be bothered by texts and calls from anyone who is making money out of texting or calling me. Everyone who needs to have my number has been given it. I've opted out. Whatever they say I don't trust them. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6948-make-your-mobile-ex-directory/#findComment-222673 Share on other sites
sophiesofa
I would agree if you did get called but they only text and that really wouldn't bother me. Fair enough though if you've opted out, no need to worry now. giggirl
Exactly Sophie. One less thing to worry about (isn't that what Forrest Gump said?).
