  1. Ok, I shall check what it is that I originally bought. Thanks for all your help!
  2. I bought the netbook first and then signed the contract for internet... I bought an asus pc eee netbook with the operating system Linux approx 18 months ago. I wanted to use it for my docs as well and so thought that it should have windows = asking a colleague to install windows XP...the result of course is that the netbook is very very slow, hard disk is not overly large. Who can help me to speed up my netbook - it doesn't need to have windows XP, it needs to have windows - because my mobile broadband is for windows (I was told that the operating system mattered...). Some windows home edition will do, but since I am not a techie I just feel overwhelmed with all this and am thinking whether I should buy a new laptop... Please don't ask too many questions - just say YES i can help :))
  3. I went in two Saturdays ago and they didn't have strawberries. Asked a staff member and he tried to sell me peaches. Told him that strawberries are in season and that I find it odd they don't have any. He just shrugged. Unacceptable I find - I need my strawberry fix everyday as long as they are in season
  4. Well, sit at the head of the table. Best position ever, as it irritates people no end. Everybody expects big shot to be sitting there... Colleague of mine always goes in first and puts their docs down at their chosen spot, then leaves again to get a glass of water, usually enters as last person and is p***ed off when docs have been moved B) and seat has been taken. That's another version of the Powerplay.
  5. I work in a bank - but please don't tell anyone. Is that creative? I guess it depends on the department. ;-):-) Am bored out of my mind and am looking for a career change or at least a new job (as are all my colleagues). I am living abroad (in London). Volunteering never crossed my mind - am sceptical of established charities and haven't really found anything that would make me want to dedicate time and money on a regular basis. Strange combination of questions, Ms. What about you?
  6. I take everything with my address on, or receipts with my credit card number to my workplace, where we have a secure bin for destroying confidential papers. Pssst, don't tell the office manager :))
  7. Sean, Giggirl is right - there were no signs on eye level. She wrote "Wet paint" in pencil on two pieces of paper and put them on the floor, abt 2m distance from where the wet paint was. I could not read it from where I was, in fact, when she pointed it out I had to pick up the paper to read it. I don't think she disputes the charge per se, she is being very buerocratic about it. And why is it that people have all the gadgets surrounding them - computer and printer - and yet choose to write a note by hand? What about printing WET PAINT in bold, big letters? That would have been visible. Better still she should have done the painting on a weekend (Gym is not open on Sat/Sun)...
  8. Thank you for your responses. Yes, I think I will charge the full price of the jacket. I said ?60 before I found it on the internet...so that's her punishment (price goes up when you ask too many questions ;-)). She is not only loosing me as a customer, but also my friend - we have already found a new gym. Thanks again!
  9. I know that I paid - I didn't steal the jacket! (!) Can I seriously be expected to keep receipts that old? it's definitely more than a year ago. The statement doesn't state the item that I bought, only the shop name (if lucky) and the amount.
  10. Oh I should add that I have tried dry cleaning it and the paint didn't come off.
  11. My jacket was damaged at the gym as I was squeezing past someone not knowing that the wall was freshly painted (there were no signs!) Gym owner insists on a receipt - I bought that jacket approx. 1.5 years ago. Is it reasonable to expect me to have a receipt after such a long time? She says she is not going to pay unless she has a receipt. I now found the jacket on the internet and I send her the link - original price ?150 / reduced to ?90 / I am asking for ?60. She says I have to proof purchase... Does anybody have any idea on how to proceed?
  12. I live on Underhill Road and take bus no 40 from Lordship Lane every morning towards Aldgate - takes about 1 hr max and upstairs ususally has seats, as the bus starts at Dulwich Library. No probs at all.
  13. Excuse me, it would have to be me of course! Queen of Dulwich >:D<
  14. Jaybee, on a more serious note - did you make sure that you actually can sell all the items individually? Especially Bolognese Sauce I am thinking that you have to abide by Hygiene standards etc. And selling things loose also means that you have to provide the packaging. All in all the items will be more expensive - i.e. two spoonful of Bolognese Sauce bought from you would be more expensive than bying a jar, using a third and throwing the rest away...and therefore I am out, because I don't think that people are prepared to pay more to get a smaller package.
  15. This is what is said on the website:- ---- Search here to find out if we have the mobile phone number of your contact. If we do, we text them with your details so they can call you back. We never give out the mobile numbers of people in our directory to protect privacy. You will be charged ?1 for the text to be sent, but it's free for your contact. ---
  16. I don't lie about my current salary either - I just don't tell them. I work in a job where I deal with confidential stuff and my line is always that I treat my contract and terms of employment as confidential as well. How would they feel if their staff discussed their wages around the water cooler? They expect that things like this are being kept confidential in their company but apparently jobseekers are fair game and suddenly it is OK to break the rules of contract...No way! I was once told that I lost a job because of this - but it's their loss not mine B)

  18. The 3 brits are not survival experts - they are plain stupid. They wear flip flops for a hike....a hike that takes them uphill .... that's just dumb They wear shorts and then complain about being eaten by insects - tough, dress appropriately when you go on a hike. They left the trail on their way back because it was too hard and then they got lost. Lankawi is an inhabited island with a wildlife sanctuary - my guess is just walking down the hill (stream or not) would have brought them back to a beach, road, farm etc. .... I find it befitting that this nonsense is written about in the favourite british trash tabloid.
  19. CW1 http://www.skinbuddy.com/ They are in Nunhead - not too far away. I have had a colonic there and it helped sort out my digestive problems. Yes, it is true that our bodies cleanse themselves all the time, but a little help can speed things up and move things along better ... yes, yes I read the bit about the curry but I think this is a kinder method ... it saved me from having to see my GP
  20. and you can also get guidance from www.consumerdirect.gov.uk The trader has to deal with your claim - not the manufacturer. Don't let them fob you off! And if you have used the item for it's intended purpose they should fix it, because the item should last longer than a year.
  21. homeopathy works on animals and children as well - how can it be a deceptive placebo if the receipient does not understand anything about it?
  22. Excuse me! I beg to differ. Homeopathy does work! I bet you have never and will never try it - that's ok. But I have...with astounding results. And to wind you up even further - I was given a homeopathic remedy in a very high potency (LM) which not many homeopaths work with anyway. It took him a week of checking the homeopathic "bible" before he send me the remedy and it was a 100% success. Not only did the symptoms clear up completely, they didn't return either :) However, it requires a very experienced practioner and that's where the problem starts - you can do a three year training course and still not know more than the mum who wants to treat her daughters' cold and looks up the remedies on the internet. To find an experienced homeopath is very rare. And to those of you who say it's all in the mind: A homeopathic remedy is cheaper than anything the conventional medical establishment has to offer. So even if it is a placebo (and we will never know for sure) I'd rather take that.
  23. I am a coffee drinker and even when it's complimentary I never take it. Coffee needs to be made fresh and not once in the morning and reheated throughout the day (gasp). So, very simple - if you have a group of people arriving at the same time, by all means serve coffee but prepare it when the people are there. If your guests are arriving one by one or not at all please skip the coffee. Good Luck with your new venture (whatever it is) QoD
  24. Anna, I like the carrot cake at Green&Blue. However, the best carrot cake I ever had came from Konditor&Cook - Carrot&Pineapple - juicy, sweet, crunchy, nice. I would love a Konditor&Cook in East Dulwich - the nearest one is near Waterloo Station :(
