Ko
thanks - i thought it might be that but wasn't sure! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6984-moving-house-and-primary-schools/page/2/#findComment-236590 Share on other sites
Smiler
It seems like a nightmare. We are thinking of moving too, probably will have to leave East Dulwich as houses are so pricey, having to think about both schools and childcare for any potential area that we may move to is a nightmare! MsJ
Apparently the catchment for Fairlawn last year was 400m! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6984-moving-house-and-primary-schools/page/2/#findComment-236720 Share on other sites
toast
Well... I have said this elsewhere (I'm beginning to enjoy this nagging) but the way to stop the school worry is to write to our locl MP's so that Dulwich gets its school problem sorted and now is the time as the current school places crisis is in full flow. itchyfeet
Thanks Molly, your reply's been really helpful. To all of you ED parents. If you could turn back time, would you have decided to live elsewhere where primary school places (to your schools of choice) weren't in such short supply? Smiler
Think that there are similar problems all over the place in London and the south east....re. East Dulwich there is a council scrutiny committee report somewhere on another thread. sillywoman
Hmm, have mulled this one over, many times over the past 14 years. We've thought about moving, but nope - ED has it all, & where we live in ED suits us down to the ground. Excellent primary ed & outstanding secondary ed all within 10 minutes walking distance (adult legs). Really, we'd be mad to move (oh yes, forgot to mention fab neighbours)!Incidentally my friends out in the sticks tell me the school catchment situation is just as bad elsewhere. I think I'd have to have a much, much better reason than 'education' to move. Belle
Slightly off topic but what happens if you live in one place, get into a local primary school and then move house out of the catchment area while the child is still going there? Do you have to switch schools (wondering if it's like doctors' surgeries!) womanofdulwich
DEFINITELY NOT. They stay a same school.this is a top trick - see all those cars that drop off in dulwich village every morning. Distasteful behaviorStill, it would be a cheaper option , but time expensice to find Whatever brand of God provides the best option for your kids education and give it 3 or so years of worship and glad handing the vicar/priest/Rabbi etc at every opportunity to get his approval for the school it is attached to . and you go to heaven at the end of it apparently , so maybe not entrely wasted Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6984-moving-house-and-primary-schools/page/2/#findComment-268320 Share on other sites
Smiler
There is a court case at the moment about whether or not religious schools can have faith in their admissions criteria without specifying what religious practice, e.g. church attendance, is required. Belle
Right. Not asking because I'm planning some protracted means of getting my child into a certain school in 4 years time...just curious as it's likely we'll move more than once in the next 10 years. Jessie
I'm moving for various reasons and will keep my son where he is until a school place nearer to where we're moving to (Forest Hill) becomes available.
