Narnia
My Mrs wants to use her laptop in Spain later in the month. I know there is a device which can assist this but can't for the life of me remember what it's called or how it works. Can anyone remind me of the name of the device? digitalronin
You might be thinking of this, but I'm not sure if it's available yet;http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/05/verizon-mifi-personal-wi-fi-coming-this-month/Failing that (or even if you can get one), I'd suggest getting a mobile broadband dongle and then getting a Yoigo prepaid SIM card in Spain. ISTR they have a very reasonable data package. Here are a few articles about it;http://prepaid-wireless-internet-access.wetpaint.com/page/Spain+-+Yoigohttp://wirelessfederation.com/news/15474-yoigo-expands-mobile-internet-service-to-prepaid-subscribers-spain/http://wapreview.com/blog/?p=294I haven't tried this myself yet, but I'm planning on it the next time I go to Spain. All the bestDavid Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7321-mobile-internet-connection-device/#findComment-232353 Share on other sites
mockney piers
3G card or a dongle. Be careful, if you get it here data will probably be subject to the usual roaming charges, which on O2 are ?3mb. You might be better of buying one when you get to Spain.Whoops, cross post, David's being far more useful! Narnia
DavidI presume the sim card is inserted in the dongle? Is that correct?ThanksDeclan Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7321-mobile-internet-connection-device/#findComment-232372 Share on other sites
OutOfFocus
Does any dongle work with any SIM? If so it might be worth playing with it on a UK SIM first. matthew123
(Assuming her laptop already works on WiFi) Many continental Hotels now have WiFi. I'd hazard a guess that even some multi-national coffee shops and pubs in Spain, like in London, also have WiFi. I'd do a search on the area you are visiting to see what WiFi is already available rather than simply a pricey dongle / card.
