They were around earlier in the week too.

Interestingly (!) they seem to have clamped one old shed for having no tax, then come back, removed the DVLA clamp, and allowed the council to stick one of its "abandoned car, will be removed in 14 days" stickers on it

It's actually the council contractor APCOA that issue the no tax clamps and then inform the DVLA (who issue the fine). APCOA will only tow the vehicle if it looks like it's worth something (i.e if they can sell it or it looks like the owner might pay to collect it). The abandoned vehicle notice just requests the owner to claim ownership. The vehicle can not be towed if the owner does get in touch. And if they don't, it can be sent to the scrap yard right away, therefore reducing APCOAs costs (ie no storage involved).

    • @Rockets be a sweety and stop using the large font, it's annoying and I expect most can comprehend. Still not sure how this festival affects you.  Or is it a case that you just like taking on causes
    • It is intimidating looking through the book sections now.  I sometimes wonder if they're stocking bookshops' remainders. OTOH, when I put  some books out in a cardboard box for taking, it was  encouraging to see that a fair proportion of those taken were aged hardbacks.

    • For a start you could just try a standard shutdown and let the system try its own tidy-up and  graceful process halting.   Then remove the disk, which can be examined elsewhere.  Alternatively doesn't windows have a task manager that can show you what processes and devices are running, and allow you to shut any down.Ctrl_Alt_Delete?   Or use a command window or ?Explorer to examine any changes in the contents of the external drive.
