Puerta Pollensa, Mallorca - recommendations please!

Hi, hate the idea of a long winter in front of us so my mind has already turned to next year's holiday. We want to go to Mallorca and a few people had recommended Puerta Pollensa. Just wondered if anyone had been and if you had any accommodation recommendations? We either want an apartment or a villa with a shared pool in walking distance of the Pine Walk/bars?restaurants etc. Thanks!

We have been to Majorca over the last few years and really like it, it's very family friendly too. We have always gone through Owners Direct and never had any problems. You can choose from apartments or villas and see locations on the map or just use google maps to really pin point where you are. We prefer the old town of Pollensa as it is a lovely old town with some great restaurants which are all family friendly. There are lots of villas within 5 min drive of the old town and then only 10 mins drive to the beach.

We went to Diea just beside puerto pollensa, lovely area. It was just pre kids and we hired a smart car. We were thankful of the small car as some of the roads are pretty narrow. Also used Owners Direct and got a lovely appartment these were pre airbnb days might be worth checking that too. enjoy

Mallorca is so easy with children. We've been for the last 8 years (boring who us!) Most recently staying here http://www.villapascali.com/ which is owned by a fellow EDF'er

We stay at Hotel Puig in Deia Majorca. Deia is fab but better for couples with a bit of money to spend. The best place in Majorca in my opinion. More recently with a child we stay in Soller or Pollensa. Both equally lovely. We stayed in Villa Pascali in Pollensa which is owned by someone from East Dulwich who we found on this forum. Soller has a tram all the way to Palma which is handy and scenic.

Went to Puerta Pollensa in August, great place and we were there with 2yr old and 3 month old.

Loads of good restaurants, beach was good for kids and lots of shady trees.

We stayed at the Puerto Azul which had 3 great pools and bedroom, shower room and lounge/ eating area (just with a fridge).

We love Puerto Pollensa but I have to say have struggled with finding great accommodation there. There are loads of lovely villas in Pollensa town itself and the countryside around, but the accommodation in the seaside town near the Pine walk seems to be either private apartments or package holiday studios - or fairly expensive hotels. We did find an ok private apartment through the http://www.puertopollensa.com/ website and there are some with pools.... Or the lovely beach houses on the Pine Walk!

Very pretty, but huge numbers of English there. We went in July and saw more English people than Spanish...

Went there a couple of years ago - I can tell you where to avoid if you PM me ! We liked the area - Pollenca town itself is really, really nice, Puerto Pollenca is quite busy, but not in a Magaluf type of way - it's more sedate. The bus service up and down the coast is very good and reliable. There's a really good Eroski supermarket if you are self catering and don't want solely to buy the English food available at the (expensive) minimarkets in the town. And some very passable Spanish restaurants in the town itself.

We've been a few times to Pollensa now, its lovely (Pollensa more so than Puerta Pollensa IMO). We stayed in a great villa which I can recommend but it is for larger families (10ish) so might not suit.

My aunt-in-law has an apartment in Soller (near Deia) which we have been to three times, I would actually recommend Soller more than Pollensa. In my opinion it has a more beautiful backdrop (high over-arching mountains which are absolutely breathtaking), a lovely port with great restaurants, a fun tram that takes you down from the town to the port (always a hit with our kids) and its been majority Spanish people whenever we've been there. I'd also say you don't necessarily need a car (easy bus from airport).

Also I'd highly recommend Fornalutx which is on the outskirts of Soller, possibly one of the most beautiful villages I've been to in Europe...think you can get villas/apartments there (but its away from the sea)
