I knew of someone once who, as a student, ate nothing but student food for a whole term or more - ie pie, chips and curry sauce. Maybe he didn't always have the pie if he was hard up.

The result - he caught scurvy! He was so embarassed he locked himself in his room until the symptoms (a blotchy rash) disappeared.

The Wing Yip in Brixton has a range of just add water curry sauce packets which might be worth a go including a Katsu curry sauce like that at Waggamamma and other japanese places. I think there's a Wing Yip in Camberwell and maybe one on Peckham Rye - certainly an asian supermarket so worth a look.

    • Many thanks Jenijenjen, we had just come to tell people and see you are ahead of us! Thanks for that and we look forward to posting more Dulwich History. We also have a lot of info on our website here: https://www.dulwichsociety.com/local-history
    • Beigel is a Yiddish word which has been translated to bagel - beigel (specifically in Brick Lane) are traditional, denser, and chewier jewish style bread rings, often boiled and baked in wood-fired oven.  bagel is lighter, sweeter Americanised version   in my house you’ll get beigels!  Honest is a much better restaurant than Gourmet. Quality of the produce is higher quality.
    • The original post was made by someone else, not the person whose post I was replying to! And the original post only mentioned Whateley Road (which has been clear of leaves whenever I have walked down it) and another unspecified road. My question was directed at CPR Dave, who (as was clear in the post I quoted)  said "The streets round here are a disgrace".
