Hello

Any tips for good things to do with a baby this age in the area? Preferably mornings as currently having long naps from 1-3pm ish.

We did plenty of activities when he was tiny (for my sanity!) but stopped these in favour of tea and cake and walks in the park. Now I'd quite like to do some things which he would enjoy as he's far more aware of the world. WOuld prefer organised things which involved interacting with other babies.

Ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Kate,

You could always try our Sing and Sign classes. On every morning in East Dulwich except Tues and Sunday, also Forest Hill and Brockley. PM me if you'd like more info/a booking form, etc.

We have loads of fun in them -if you search through the Forum I think you'll get a feel for what we're like, but of course, please do ring me if you'd like to discuss things in person.

All the best,

Trish

Kate - we just got back from Leapers which was free and great. Think it's closing for summer hols now, but open again beginning of Sept. Also Dulwich library is nice on a Weds at 11am and apparently the community greenhouse in Brockwell Park does a baby/toddler session on Thursdays at 2pm which I'm going to give a go.

Kate,

check out netmums, you'll find loads of playgroups, activities and places to go there and can look up by an area as well: http://www.netmums.com/places/Parent_Baby_and_Toddler_Groups.437/. I had the same "problem" with my son at that age, he used to take long naps so many of the afternoon playgroups were not so great for us. I don't know how local you want to remain but I used to take my son to the Camberwell Salvation Army playgroup (Tuesday - Thursday) 10-12 and All Saints Church (in Peckham) playgroup on Wednesday mornings and he loved going to both of those until he turned 3 and started nursery last January. Both groups offer varied activites and loads of interaction with other kids. Unfortunately many of the playgroups run term time only.

Kate- my son is also 8 months and we have been doing lots of free fun stuff which i picked from the Sure Start Summer Programme. Most things are coming to an end, but they will start anew in September. It is for Southwark from Dulwich to Bermondsey. We always have a good time. Call the Council for a programme.

Whippersnappers also do a free session at the rye oak centre in peckham rye.

Kate - you've probably done so, but it's worth downloading the 'Let's Go' guides for dulwich and peckham, on the Southwark website. They contain a complete list of activities for babies and toddlers in the local area. The link is below (not sure how to attach a hyperlink so you may need to copy and paste into your browser). Sorry!

    • Does anyone know what local pubs/restaurants will be open this year for Xmas serving lunch?
    • That’s interesting, Dulwich Dweller; my 70 yr old neighbour told me 2 weeks ago that he’d left work early to go and book in person (being uncomfortable with all the online & app stuff) and was explicitly told that he needed to go away and book online. He’s not the sort of person to be insistent and, like a lot of older people, a bit embarrassed at his lack of digital ability, so he left without the appointment . This is my point about inconsistency, since his experience was quite different from yours. I’m beginning think that it rather depends on who, at Reception, you speak to on day…
    • Wow, never had a disappointing meal there since they opened.. guess like every establishment, depends on the chef.. All for allowing an off day - good of you to post.. much better than chains - had awful service at Gail’s for eg..be it cake and tea or a meal.. They are so nice and accommodating..
    • "I tried Viet Flavour and was disappointed.  Their summer rolls especially were not at all good, stodgy and flavourless.  Pho-OK.  I'm hoping it will get better " Back in June I posted as above.  I am glad to report that either the first time I went the restaurant was having an off day, or they have upped their game.  I ordered the same things.  The summer roll was exactly as it should be, and had a lovely dipping sauce. The Pho was delicious.  My brother who was with me wanted to give it 10/10 but I always think you should leave room for improvement so gave it 9/10.  Staff were lovely.  I am so glad because I love Vietnamese food and now think I have a very good one just round the corner.
