As I said, I've just bought a house in ED ward. Would still get my own now. Would never vote for James now. Simple.

I live in ED Ward and have spoken and emailed James Barber frequently. When ED ward received money for personal alarms, there was plenty of publicity about it. People as been said before, do not understand that ward names such as ED, Village and College give an indication of the part of ED covered.

Also the police from Lordship Lane (before they were forced to move to Camberwell) frequently turned up to local events i.e. Summer fetes, etc and had a stall giving out personal alarms, and general information.

That is really unfair.

It has been clearly explained above why you weren't eligible for an alarm.

Why take it out on James Barber? He is an excellent councillor and works really hard, and has always responded really quickly and effectively to issues I have raised with him.

Hi Speedbird,

Welcome to East Dulwich ward however you intend to vote.

I'm sorry my original post about personal alarms wasn't clear enough about being limited to ED ward residents. I can't spend public money on who I want as it has to be fully accounted for. So these personal alarms and their distribution is via local Police who have to confirm the recipient is an ED ward resident.

I have in the past also applied for Crime Prevention funds to be created to provide such kit in all neighbouring wards - sadly other councillors didn't think this a priority for them despite the support of their police officers..

    • We used to feed the birds, but once the parakeets discovered this they just took over, scaring away all the other species and eating everything in sight. I tried scaring them away with a Nerf gun, but they just didn't care. I know it will open a can of worms (no pun intended) but I really think  the parakeet population needs to be reduced; yes they are pretty, but they are just like a plague of locusts when it comes to food supplies.  PS apologies for pedantry @malumbu but the true definition of "decimate" is to reduce by a tenth... 🫤
    • If anyone is going to the meetings above, you may wish to raise the issue of the impact of the lights, noise & activity on the local bat population. Gala commissioned a survey on bat activity, which stated that activity had been identified, with several species detected, and that action must be taken to minimise any disturbance to these legally protected species. One of the recommendations was "to limit artificial lighting and reduce noise levels starting at least 20 minutes before sunset throughout the event period"  I asked the Events Team three months ago whether this recommendation had been implemented. I finally got an answer yesterday - "This recommendation was not achievable due to the nature of the event... it was concluded that not implementing this recommendation would have little impact"  So there you have it. Commission a survey (box ticked) and then don't adhere to the findings because it's "not achievable", thereby wilfully and knowingly negatively affecting the foraging & commuting habits of a legally protected wildlife species. This is on top of the useless bird survey, which only takes into account activity within the walls of the site, not the surrounding area which is full of trees with nesting birds which are undoubtedly disturbed by a month of noise, lights & activity.
    • Really good service. Good bread. And very accommodating when we had to outwit our clever resident fox.
    • ...and so, 4 years on from the "dramatic planning meeting" that approved the "meganursery", how has it all worked out in reality? The building looks nice from the outside - but I don't know anything more. Did either of the nursery businesses on EDG fail because there was no demand for nursery places in East Dulwich? Did Carmageddon on East Dulwich Grove get worse? Were pre-COVID work patterns abandoned forever (lol)? Were some of the concerns expressed in opposition to the planning application a teensy bit overblown...? https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/southwark/mega-nursery-approved-amid-dramatic-planning-meeting/
