Fuschia
This brilliant book can now be ordered from the librayhttp://prism.talis.com/southwark/items/665983?searchTextBox=naomi+stadlen&resultsUri=%2Fsouthwark%2Fsearchaction.php%3FsearchTextBox%3Dnaomi%2BstadlenAmazon review "Product DescriptionHave you ever spent all day looking after your baby or young child - and ended up feeling that you have 'done nothing all day'? Do you sometimes find it hard to feel pleased with what you are doing, and tell yourself you should achieve more with your time? Maybe it's because you can't see how much you are doing already. In this unique and perceptive look at mothering, Naomi Stadlen draws on many years' work with hundreds of other mothers of a wide variety of ages and backgrounds. She explores mothers' experiences to reveal what they - and you - are doing when it may look, to everyone else, like nothing. If you are a mother, and have ever felt: that nobody understands what you do all day; overwhelmed by your feelings for your baby; tired all the time; that nothing prepared you for motherhood; uncertain what your baby seems to want; short-tempered with your partner - you will find this the most reassuring book you have ever picked up. anna_r
This book is so good. It made me feel so much about being a new mum and about all the things I was doing without realising it. I read it a few weeks in during a couple of nap sessions while my daughter slept on me. I'd recommend it to anyone who's just had a baby. Fuschia
Yes, much better than all the "Do it like this!" books. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7749-naomi-stadlen-what-mothers-do/#findComment-242506 Share on other sites

LeilahB
Totally agree - I read this book a few weeks in when I was feeling pretty bleak about the whole motherhood thing and it did me so much good. Just totally spoke to how I was feeling then and made sense of what seemed like such a difficult time. Highly recommend it. KateMontero
I think Rachel Cusk's On Becoming a Mother is brilliant. But also a little scary ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7749-naomi-stadlen-what-mothers-do/#findComment-247538 Share on other sites
