former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?

Recommended Posts

Hi ilondoner,

Peckham Rye high street is a lo way from East Dulwich but i do agree some shops have unappealing smells and I'm not yet a vegetarian.

The council fpFood Safety Business Plan for 2011-2012 is about ot be decided. Sadly it's already halfway through the financial year but no earlier than we September the cllr Rcihard Livingstone will authorise the plan. It on my lists of things to review this weekend but I would encourage you to take a look at

http://moderngov.southwarksites.com/mgIssueHistoryHome.aspx?IId=13195

and please do give feedback to cllr Livingstone and me.

Hi James

There is currently a worsening situation on Whateley Road which I would like to bring to your attention again and ask what can be done please.

There is a car repair operation in Whateley Road that is causing much frustration for local residents and users of the road with the following issues being of major issue:

1. Cars worked on in the street

2. Many noisy power tools on the street which are not only noise pollution but dangerous(cables across the pavement)

3. On yellow lines and in parking bays all day EVERY day.

4. Engines are revved to there limit many times day EVERY day.

5. Cars are sprayed in their garage which is far far from air tight; this means the fumes are there for all passers by to breath in AND entering homes of local residents.

6. Openly advertising cars that are for sale on the street (means a huge impact to being able to park in the area)

So all in all makes for a fairly unpleasant experience let alone the foul mouthing I get when walking past having asked them not to take these actions in the past.

Some of these activities are, I believe, in contravention of leases provided by the council and also illegal.

Can you advise what action is being taken currently by the council please?

Hi Ko & the-e-dealer,

Have recessed the weeds on Landells and Friern Roads + Landcroft and asked if any change to the weed management.

The new bus drivers toilet at the south end of Friern Road being installed after a long campaign to eliminate the anti social bus drivers using local gardens to relive themselves. Apparently the sewage connection, water connection and electric connections have been made. Unfortunately the electric meter wasn't orders which has just been realised and is now on order so the bus drivers toilet won't be in operations until mid October.

All the rubbish, rubble, etc around it I've asked council officers to remove. We are really close to solving this problem.

Hi Coach Beth & Townleygreen green,

The Puffin crossing of Grove Vale near to Goose Green School will apparently be ready I two weeks time. During half term the road will be resurfaced and a raised treatment like a giant wide hump bringing the road to pavement level will be installed.

It should be good when finished but it is running late.

When the Puffin crossing is finished you will need to take extra care with it. I've yet to find a correctly installed Puffin crossing in Southwark and the administration has decide a,l new crossing will be Puffin crossing. Needless to say wrongly installed Puffin crossings are more dangerous than the Pelicans vein replaced. And yes I am trying to get Southwark to either install Puffins correctly or give us more popular Pelican crossings.

Do you know what sort of fruit it is? One person's rotten fruit nuisance is another person's potential jar of jam. If you take a picture and post it you may find ED residents turning up with ladders and getting rid of the 'problem'.

At the Dulwich Community Council local Police told us that dramatic blip in burglaries in East Dulwich - 22 in 8 weeks. All were homes where residents didn't use their mortice locks but were relying solely on Yale locals and the burglar used plastic cards to open the doors and get in. They've caught the burglar who is now on remand and expecting a long prison sentence.

So please do use your mortice locks.

Dear James,

Yesterday morning I was out and about with friends looking for somewhere to get a Full English when I stumbled across an ED shop that I'd never been into before. I had a small moment of excitement until, on closer inspection, I saw that it was selling fake designer goods.

It's bad enough that we seem to pay over the odds in ED for anything from a bacon butty to a lightbulb without having this sort of blatant rip-off.

Whilst I'm sure that a lot of girls would spot the good on offer for the nasty fakes that they are, some bloke wanting to surprise his partner might not know the difference and might part with the ?280 being asked for something wich has, at best, a ?20 - ?30 value.

I telephoned Trading Standards this morning to pass on all the info and they said they would direct it to the right team. Trading Standards are a mystery to me and I'm worried that they may decide not to act. If I PM you all the details I wonder whether you would please shake a pointy stick in their general direction? I want that shop raided and stripped of all its rip-off fakes and I really hope to God that nobody in ED has been fooled and paid over the odds for this tatt.

Thank you in advance and, yes, I am 100% sure that they are fakes.

Yes horrified and amazed that despite everyone's efforts this is still going on. All right under the noses of the Police station.

I'll see if I can get the ball rolling again to address these issues. I'm really sorry that after all that chasing and action this private business is still causing such grief.

Southwark Council has received an application for advertising consent 11-AP-2953 for 25-27 Lordship Lane for a 10m wide x 7m high hoarding. The application is for it to be externally illuminated.

If you think this a good or bad idea please let the councils designated planning officer for this application know - [email protected] and also please copy me.

Do we want Vegas style US advertising hoardings along Lordship Lane?

Hi. I don't know if anyone else has raised this, but could the exits to East Dulwich station be improved?. They are very difficult for pushchairs and must be impossible for wheelchairs. I thought stations had to be designed to accomodate the disabled? Also the exits, especially if you're coming form London Bridge, are so narrow that if there were an accident at rush hour, it could be dangerous. There's plently of room for widening

Hi Lynne,

Funnily enough I was thinking exactly that yesterday when coming home via London Bridge - East Dulwich stations.

The slopes are currently much steeper than DDA 1 in 20 requirements. The 5 little steps and funny angles does make it feel it has the potential for a crowd crush.

I have met with Network Rail and Southern about and to make this station fully DDA Compliant NR believe they need to constant a new ?1M retaining wall on the southern side. They'd then be able to install a lift and full set of stairs and would want to remove the sloe.

Realistically i don't see that level of investment being obtained.

Id like to speak with Southwark Disability Association how study would feel about any dispensation to remove the steps and extend the slope.

Hi,

Please can you let us know how the Royal Mail are getting away with providing such an awful service in East Dulwich. So far purchases I've made online, magazines, bank statements and even letters I've sent myself to test the service have all failed to arrive. I've resorted to getting all my post sent elsewhere as it is beyond a joke.

Will this situation ever be resolved and what are you doing to sort the problem out?

Many Thanks

Andy

Hi coach Beth and Townleygreen green,

I've just been told that the Grove Vale crossing new Puffin replacing the previous staggered Pelican crossings will be activated Monday 26 September and road raising 21 October during half term.

All other works planned for Grove Vale will take place by 28 October and the road resurfacing will take place 31/10 - 4/11.
