do we really have to do another summer with Dulwich Fusion unable to regulate the temperature of the studios? Last summer classes were repeatedly cancelled due to this and it seems this is about to happen all over again. If you go to a class that is cancelled and you are not a member you can get your money back - however if you are a member you can't and just lose out - with barely an apology and the buck constantly passed as to why it is not their fault. I am having to consider withdrawing my membership which i really don't want to do - i would much prefer that my very expensively recently refurbished local gym actually functioned.

Either the staff don't know how to work the complicated computerised system or this very expensive system has never worked since it was installed. One inexpensive and easy and obvious solution would be to replace the plate glass windows with windows that actually opened. Simple. And it would prevent the members from being the ones suffering while Fusion, the Council and the designers sort out the problem which has been on-going now for a very long time.

One worrying trend is that when classes go ahead in the high temperatures the themometres are often missing. Surely this is neither safe nor best practice? And even when a class does go ahead in these conditions most people have to sit out for a fair portion and the teacher has to moderate so we are not getting what we have signed up and paid for.

If you know that this is going to continue all summer could i have a straight answer on it so i can leave now and not get all upset about it all over again? (And it is very upsetting to constantly organise (and sometimes pay) for childcare to go to a class that then gets cancelled at the last minute and this happened to me over and over last year.

Any progress on this James?

Would be great if local councillors could get as involved in this as with other projects like sourcing sites for new schools etc. This issue is just as important.

Do we have any support from the council?

If you can't help could you please actively advise who can.

Thanks James - still no improvement. The temperature this morning was 88F - more than 10 degrees higher than the temperature recommended for that particular practice - and still cooler than normal!

REgarding Fusion - I understand the Southwark Labour pledged to offer free swimming and gym admission to all Southwark residents. This was to commence once contracts with Fusion were up for renewal.

Do you know when this will be?

Hi James, I started a thread with this query but it seems to have been moved to the Lounge (?!), not sure why.

On the corner of Melbourne Grove and East Dulwich Grove, one of those raised crossovers seems to be being removed. I don't think the current version has been there for very long as it is.

Do you have any idea what is going on with this?

Hi James, I spoke to Dr Sarma on Friday and it wasn't his idea to close the surgery on his retirement. NHS England were the ones who told him that the surgery would close on his retirement as there would be sufficient cover in the area for his patients. He is as much upset about this as his patients but his own health needs led to his retirement plans. I have already sent 3 emails to NHS England on this matter but as yet have had no acknowledgement from them. Perhaps you could try and maybe succeed, where I failed, and get some sort of response?

TP, extraordinary. After all, we are so well provided for in terms of health, local surgeries are not under any pressure, no doubt all those patients will just slot onto other lists, no problem. Perhaps there are plans to turn the surgery building into another school ( tongue only partly in cheek)?

I suppose the question must be, what alternative use is being considered for this surgery (where it is, that is)? It is very clearly a moot point whether the area is sufficently provided for by NHS doctors - reading this forum would certainly bell that cat. There are issues about small (single or dual) practices - and the level to which they provide effective services, I have noted elsewhere that since Dr Shipman these have been looked on askance by the powers that be. But the view that Dr Samar's whole list can be readily and seamlessly absorbed by existing practices seems naive.

Handbrake turn...Can you please James, chase up the overgrown trees on Barry Road, the pollarded ones. They all need a good chopping back. It's bad enough if you are able bodied but it must be a right pain, even dangerous, if you are less able-bodied or with poor sight. I've reported it, but nothing has happened yet. Thanks.

Pollarding results in a nice little earner potentially then with these trees needing a trim every year or am being too I cynical?

Hi James, Re my previous post, I have now had a 2 responses to my emails to NHS England from a Wilby Phoebe (Case Officer,Complaints & General Enquiries, Customer Contact Centre) and they have passed my comments to "The South London Area Team's Primary Care Contracting Team. They will, supposedly, contact me direct! On the second response they actually quoted me a reference no.

They have a petition to sign on the reception desk and there is going to be a peaceful demonstration appealing the closure.

The date for the demonstration was going to be finalised today hopefully.

Yes, that entry treatment is beign replaced with a full raising of the whole road on East Dulwich Grove. It should help ensure the soon to be 20mph is adhered to and the junctino become much less crash prone.

I'll try and find out. Clearly free gym and swimming pool use and they were very clear to not print any caveats will be a big project to introduce. The Labour Leader was clear they didnt yet know how they'd do it but was sure they'd find a way. My hunch is it will be limited by capacity. So when discussing the new East Dulwich swcondary school for example the Labout council leader was interested in our suggestion for a swimming pool and sports hall to be included.

James - I've copied this from my post on a thread about revolting bins and wondered what your thoughts might be .

James ,anyone else ,another common scenario is when builders doing up a property or some other third party ( I don't want to malign the builders the majority of whom are professional ) such as clearance of a flat between lettings ,dumps loads of inappropriate rubbish in a bin .They move on and new people move into property with overflowing and unemptied bins .

There have been/still are 3 bins by one of the bus stops in Barry Rd - flies buzzing ,stuff on the ground . If I moved in to such a situation I honestly wouldn't know/have the stomach or strength to set about sorting the bins out .

What's the best course of action - do Southwark have a phone nos to report such misuse while it's happening and somehow ( don't know how ) take the culprits to task ? Or a service which the new tenants can call on for help ?

Hi ITATM,

Southwark will invesitgate eco crime but doesn't have an on call on demand resources to take them to task their and then unless it happens in an area with Community Wardens - Peckham, Camberwell, E&C.

Best bet is to report ideally with pictures to [email protected] and if not resolved in timely manner escalate to me or another councillor.
