British military fitness - peckham

Recommended Posts

Looking for an honest assessment of bmf. Bored of the gym and need a trainer to get me going. Also need a set time so I actually commit to going.

What exercises do they do? Assume there's no weights involved? So how do you work arms, shoulders, back?

Can anybody vouch for it and say they've really shaped up?

A lot is made of the community ans social side. Does this exist for peckham bmf?

Look forward to hearing, thank you.

they offer a free trial class so id recommend you try that.

its bursts of running, press ups, burpees, sit ups, etc, interspersed with partner work and games. when i did it for a summer i was very fit (for me!) and to some extent you get out what you put in - if you push yourself you get moved up into the 'reds' and 'greens' for the fit/super fit people.

its very motivating and they don't let you slack off.

I've been going to BMF on and off for over three years. I've always kept fit, but as the OP has said you get out what you put in. Whatever ability you are, you can get pushed to your limit at the sessions. There's enough cardio work to keep your heart rate up but plenty of resistance based exercising (press ups, pull ups etc etc). You'd be surprised how much you can work without weights.

If you want to maintain a generally high level of fitness and tone up (it does help that) then BMF is a great way of doing it. I combine it with running and other things and it works well for me.

It's not the solution to get 'big'. If you're looking to bulk up, then the gym and protein shake route is probably better.

You could give us a try! It's free, so no worry if it's not for you. Some jogging/running and resistance/push ups using park benches etc but people bring hand weights. And coffee after for bonding...

Free! - Every Session! Fitness & Toning on the Rye - Sat @10am 16 to 60+

I'm a big BMF fan. Like others have said, you get out of it what you put in. I'd find it hard to go back to the gym now that I've been to BMF, if you're needing that extra push and being able to mix things up a bit then its def worth giving it a go. I'm of average fitness but you get a mix of abilities attending - from those who haven't done any exercise in years to ultra marathon runners - but the camaraderie amongst everyone is great. It's also quite a lot of fun returning from a work out covered in mud.

The social side is ok - there are post-session trips to the pub and cafe on a Sunday as well as more organised events like the Major series.

    • I’m in exactly the same position.  They badgered me for ages to have a water meter fitted.  I’d prevaricated simply because it’s so tedious dealing with these people but eventually gave in when the communications became increasingly frequent and aggressive and it was done in March 2023. I just assumed I’d then be charged on actual consumption but I received an email this morning with details of the latest price increase and it said, “Since your property doesn’t have a water meter, your bill is calculated in advance based on fixed rates rather than water usage”.  I’m sure they’ve realised I’d be paying much less if they billed me on actual consumption but have not gone out of their way to inform me.  Trawling through their website, for me anyway, is an unutterably tedious chore, but I think I’ll now have to work up the energy over the weekend to pick up the phone on Monday morning and have a word with them.
    • Great Service again from Andy.  Contacted him with a couple of issues with toilet cistern and shower.  He came over and sorted it all out quickly. Good advice given, reasonable charge for the jobs.  Highly recommend Andy!
    • Just seen this.  Your post was a bit unnecessary.  I was simply responding to the previous post that children should be cycling on the pavement. But as you say I know shed loads about transport.  Not to the depths that some go down to the minutia.  Some call me the space cowboy.  Some call me the gangster of love.  I think of myself as the people's poet.  You have to laugh at yourself. Echoing what DKH said, we weren't there, you don't know the parent was making a snide remark, My favourite Dulwich parent story was a few years ago were friends when we were in the Herne garden a few years ago, who let their children run riot.  Bless.  One decided to turn the hose on spraying some poor drinkers.  Now most of us would be mortified, but the friends welcomed their child's creativity.
