Closure of Vauxhall Bus Garage

This isn't directly an ED matter, but as with the Loughborough Junction thread, it could affect many of us.

There is a plan to demolish Vauxhall bus station, only ten years after it was built. More details are here:

The bus station looks terrible (who thought a ski jump on top a caravan was a good look?) and it's horrible on a cold, windy night. The whole area is soul-less. The plans look to be to replace it with a new High Street. The plus would be to bring some life to a rather dead area, but the minus is that the numerous bus stops will now be spread out more.

Agreed- it is an eyesore. Dread to think what re-vamping the area will do to the already awful traffic around there though.

It's a lot worse waiting in the open air on Vauxhall Bridge.

The 'high street' for this area should be along the river, where there are already bars and restaurants. That'll keep the new residents happy (and this folly will be driven by the new US embassy arriving, for sure). Meanwhile, those of us who have to cycle, drive, catch buses, change trains/tubes, can carry on as we are.

It may not be a design classic but it makes changing onto another bus route or getting to the station a whole lot easier than it used to be.

I like the bus garage. Also, let's not design only for aesthetics ("it is an eyesore") or commercial gain (I wonder who is actively pushing the high-street idea - developers?). What about usability and prudence? Not to say common sense.
