Blackheath is really good too...on a related but slight tangent, I've just been watching the news and seen that most councils have yet to undertake fire risk assessments of their properties as required under law of all social landlords; the type which might have prevented the tragedy in Camberwell over the summer. Lambeth has assessed 2 blocks of the 112 it owns. Maybe some reprioritising of budgets needs to be considered before this years Guy Fawkes night...
Battersea Park display is HUGE and excellent - http://www.whatsonwhen.com/sisp/index.htm?fx=event&event_id=19691 -http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/info/200006/arts_and_entertainment/288/fireworks_displays but note the admission fee. Also you can usually get there by train in about 10 minutes from Denmark Hill or Peckham Rye.

That'll be Dulwich Sports Club on Burbage Road. I used to go when I was a kid. They have them every year and are to be recommended.

    • The frequency of fireworks seems to be increasing. If revellers selected the low noise variety that would help, but the trend seems to be the louder the better. I do not think sensitivity to stimuli is the same as timidity. Unexpected, extremely loud bangs and unusual noises will startle most of us. Humans, unlike other animals, have the luxury of knowing what fireworks are and what the noise represents. Some animals do learn to cope but many do not. It could be their hearing is not as sensitive. We should not forget that many animals, including cats and dogs have hearing that is much more developed than ours.

    • I still have a landline and the set of Panasonic cordless phones I have are on their last legs.  One display screen is broken. If you have a used set available, let me know.   John Lewis used to sell them but no longer.
