Large trees Dulwich Village

Very sad that these two have had to be chopped down. Haven't been down there for a while so this may have been some time ago. They must have been at least 100 years old ...

Maybe they were diseased / decayed or become unstable.

Was only recently the trees disappeared. I drove through the village last week and noticed how open the whole area approaching the roundabout seemed because these lovely trees were gone. According to the Dulwich Society all trees in the area are protected by a conservation order so wonder why they were just left as stumps?

They were diseased, I asked the guys doing the chopping. You can see when you look at the stumps the middle of the trees were rotten and it travelled up the entire length of the trunk.

I would say they were a lot older than 100 years.

Just hope that they'll be replaced.

yes I saw these being cut down and they were clearly diseased. Really hopping they will be replaced.

They have been replaced already, the new trees were planted before the old ones were taken down. One was damaged during the felling though.
