It was the Andytown bit I liked most. Bit of Italian never goes amiss though.

Lo Mickmac you have been reading my posts. There is a lot of Italian In Andytown, now what is the name of the Italian ice cream parlour on the Andytown Road opposite Dobbins and the PD.

Bloody Italians were crap tonight, I think il revert to my Spanish mother's side.

A small but knowledgeable turnout - I got caught out by the standing for the anthem thing. Thoroughly enjoyed a good game in good company without the tension of being too involved (unlike everyone else in the Castle). Shocking defending for the last goal everyone in the Italian half. Hope Ireland win their play off for some repeat nights next summer!
unfortunately just found the play off draw is seeded so likely to play russia france croatia or greece. Will be a big ask and the play offs have been unlucky for ireland in the past losing against holland belgium turkey and another i cant remember. But hopefully they will be fortunate this time.
I think the team to avoid would be Russia. France might be beatable, they seem to have lost their way over the last 2 years, but Ireland would be big underdogs. Croatia would be tough too. Greece would not be easy. In fact, lets face it, we are buggered.

It would be nice if we qualified automatically and it would be even nicer if we copped on enough to stop giving away soft late goals

But, undefeated in a tough group, we tool teh world champions to a close game home and away - we SHOULD be looking at countries like Russia, France et al as beatable

Even if we haven't beaten a top-flight team in 8 years....

we are definately due some luck in the play offs sean. If it takes luck to qualify then ill take that. I have remembered the 4th team to beat us in play offs; switzerland.

At worst it may be good for 2 unexpected nights out in the castle though.

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
